Asda online shopping is so much worst then it used to be.

I am a single mum 2 under 3s and live in a high rise flat and therefore the easiest way for me to do a big shop is online. I did one to come Saturday for food for the week no alcohol cost me 90£. Not one thing I brought has a date longer than today. I didn’t buy much milk meat but I feed my children fresh fruit and vegetables so that’s where the money comes in. I would happily pay £90 for good quality food that last a week but 4 days is ridiculous the milk date is tomorrow ham was today chicken breast today bread was yesterday. Im so angry by how awful it is

To be honest it's not much better when buying in store, most cooked meats, fresh meat, veg, salad stuff usually has no more than 48 hours on the bb date these days.

ChilledToTheBone · 02/01/2024 19:50

I rarely use asda. We have 3 within 3 miles and all equally as shite as each other.
I got grapes on 29th had 5th on them, Mouldy already. Potato's sprouting already. Ham 2 days date.

I only go for cupboard staples now occasionally.

Puddingpieplum · 02/01/2024 19:59

It's hot and miss for your local store. I've tried everything from Asda to Ocado and settled on Tesco, my local one is grand. Asda can be a false economy if they send you shite.

Iwrotethelyricstoaxlf · 02/01/2024 20:03

I need to do a bit of a shop around.

the veg and meat has been awful from Asda. But I now get a delivery from muscle food for most of my meat (DH loves the Aldi big daddy steaks so I pop in when passing and buy however many they have).

veg wise I’ve had a couple of odd box deliveries and they’ve been really good. Have been topping up on fruit/veg at the local Waitrose.

I need to try a Tesco delivery (mostly as I’ve got points to use and no longer work near one).

CeeJay81 · 02/01/2024 20:06

Try Tesco. I find them much better than Asda. If there's something with a low date like that, they inform you of it and you can send it back. They rarely substitute either. Asda were terrible with substitutions too.

Createausername1970 · 02/01/2024 20:12

To be honest I have never been that keen on Asda. You get what you pay for in my experience, and when you are not paying much, you don't get much.

I have been using Morrisons on-line for about a year and so far have had no issues with short shelf lives. However, I do two small orders each week, not one large one, so stuff doesn't have to last for a whole week.

Pineapplewaves · 02/01/2024 20:15

If your food has a short date you can log into your account and request a refund but you have to do it within three days of the shop so you may be too late now. You can still phone them now and request a refund.

I find bread always has a short date regardless of where I get it from, usually two or three days but it's still safe to eat it after the best before date and it will be fine toasted.

Do you have a freezer? I stick everything with a short date in the freezer and defrost it in the fridge before I need to cook with it, this makes the food last a bit longer.

I usually get good dates from Asda but in December they have been short - this is because they have been very busy and short staffed due to Christmas, staff are just putting all the food out but not arranging on the shelves in date order. Things should get back to normal in a few days now the holidays are over and people have gone back to "normal" shopping.

BeautifulAndBrave · 02/01/2024 20:20

The suppliers tend to have time off as well at Xmas, all supermarkets will struggle regarding dates inbetween Xmas and New Year, it's the same every yesr.

Tinseltiss · 02/01/2024 20:29

This is such a good idea via the freezer mine literally just had a tub of ice cream and some frozen onions in it 😂😂

I agree. Have really noticed Asda is mega shit. I'm thinking of switching to Tesco but I do find it more expensive

Tinseltiss · 02/01/2024 22:22

That’s me at the moment Asda is so much cheaper and I never noticed a issue but since December I’m finding the dates awful as well as the substitutes I had a curry paste substitute with a ready meal curry and apples substitute with a apple candle once!

I love Asda home delivery - never had an issue. My friend agree but another friend hates them -
Think it depends on the local store they pick from

Emeraldrings · 02/01/2024 22:47

Must have changed recently. When I did home shopping at Asda we had to pick things with a minimum date of 4 days. The scanner would make you put in the date, if it was less than 4 days it wouldn't accept it.
I get my shopping delivered from Asda now (don't worry there now) but most of my stuff goes in the freezer and defrost as needed. I haven't had an issue with short dates.
It has become bloody expensive though.

Borborygmus · 02/01/2024 22:48

When I used to use Asda they'd quite frequently send short-dated items. But I used to make a point of asking for a refund on those items via the form on their website, and they always paid up. Obviously it was still a bit of a nuisance, but at least I got those items for free.

LikeIDontExist · 02/01/2024 22:48

My Asda are pretty good. I have the occasional short dated item but I just send it back with the driver for a refund. If there’s something I haven’t noticed is short dated I may request a refund online if I can’t use it.
They did sub parsnips for my carrots last week which was a bit odd, ipthere are several things I now click ‘no subs’ for after previous issues but the pickers have to follow the computer ps suggestions, they aren’t allowed to be free thinking apparently!

Just request a refund op, it’s a pain having to replace the items but at least you won’t then be out of pocket.

WatermelonLou · 02/01/2024 22:50

I'm still raging with Asda for similar if not the same reason... Terrible business their delivery's. Complain, I have! They make it more hassle to do so but do it. Big corporation like that? This service is designed for people like you and I, and many others. If I could get to the supermarket freely I would.. trust me.

GG1986 · 02/01/2024 23:10

I find Asda shocking and moved over to Tesco. With Asda we used to get lots of subs and unavailable items, long waits at click and collect and use by dates were bad too. Make a complaint.

decionsdecisions62 · 02/01/2024 23:15

We tried Asda click and collect for a while it was terrible. So disorganised that I had to stop. Back to Tesco now.

Do you actually like Morrisons own branded stuff though? I shop on a budget but obviously try to buy the best quality I can afford. The majority of Asdas own food I find perfectly fine, when I’ve done a Morrisons shop and bought their stuff it’s been fucking disgusting.
