I'm no darts fan but I've seen loads about this new player Luke Littler who is 16 and is doing very well. His girlfriend is 21, am I the only one who rinks this is inappropriate? (Despite the fact that he looks about 38).

OP posts:

My DH was 19 and I was 24 when we met - same age difference. Socially unacceptable?

No because at 19 you might have had a little life experience but at 16 literally you are still a child.

Teenageannoyingoaf · 02/01/2024 22:26

No one is knocking him down. People look at this and think she may be exploiting him . The opposite of knocking him.

Consenting adults? At 16? Legally yes but you are so immature at 16 consent still isn't something that is considered and measured. At 21 it should be.

"the views on this thread align pretty much with everything else I’ve seen on the topic."

Which views? The ones that you agree with? 🤣

I said I don’t have a strong opinion on this particular age gap and far less of an opinion on the individuals concerned, so no, that isn’t what I mean.

Posters on here are as a rule very negative towards older people forming relationships with or even just fancying other people who, while legally able to consent, are still teenagers or in their early 20s. The two things that are always mentioned are the power dynamics and a sense that it’s just wrong / ‘eww’ / unnatural. Then, depending on the exact ages, there may be a minority who disagree.

This thread follows that pattern. It’s not a callous attempt to bring this guy down.

*Some people are really out to get him aren't they? 🙄

Absolute saddos starting posts about this young lad all over the place. Grow up.*

Jesus, calm down, I'm certainly not "out to get him". I just think it's wildly inappropriate for a 21 year old to be interested in a 16 year old.

Edited

I completely agree with you.

I agree he's very successful and I wish him well in his future matches.

But yes, the relationship is inappropriate and would she really be interested in him if he was just Luke at school doing his GCSEs and a Saturday job at the local newsagent ..... Hmm?

I have a DS and would be concerned at the age difference and 'power' imbalance.

This made me smile because it's true. Yes it's likely they have a common interest etc but ultimately she's 21 going out with a boy!

demonheed · 02/01/2024 22:44

As I've said, I'm a darts fan, have been for a long time. I think that may be what is giving me some context here and irritating me.

The way he's being treating in the mass media is having an impact on social media and the ramifications of that, as we all know, can be devastating. I've seen on the OP here and on other posts, comments about his parents, his appearance, his girlfriend, his upbringing. All from people who have zero idea who he even is!

Nobody wants that for Luke and his fellow darts player girlfriend (who was with him before he was even a 150/1 outsider btw), in the words of Gary Anderson, just let the lad play darts 🎯

demonheed · 02/01/2024 22:45

As for the shite about him being a school boy, he's not. He doesn't go to school 🤷🏽‍♀️🤣

You were both adults. Not the case with Luke Littler and his girlfriend.

Crimsonripple · 02/01/2024 22:48

I'm pretty sure he was interviewed only a week ago saying he had school the next day!!

LakeTiticaca · 02/01/2024 22:53

Nobody knows what goes on in other people's relationships. They might just be friends. They might just be enjoying a damn good shag. The relationship might last. It might not.
It's nobody else's business what other people do, legally and consensually and certainly not the business of all the MN disapproving pearl clutchers 😉

I doubt that. He left in the Spring of last year. He is 17 later this month.

💯

AllIsWellish · 02/01/2024 22:56

No, he didn't go to college in September as he's playing darts instead so I've read anyway

demonheed · 02/01/2024 22:58

"I'm pretty sure he was interviewed only a week ago saying he had school the next day!!"

The fucking shite some people write on the internet 🤣. Thanks for this comment @Crimsonripple because it sums it up really.

You're pretty sure that a week ago, on Boxing Day, he said in an interview that he had school in the morning? Ok then

AllIsWellish · 02/01/2024 23:00

No, it was only 6 months ago he was sat in his uniform taking gcses though. I bet he has loads in common with a 21 year old

thegreylady · 02/01/2024 23:03

He seems like a very mature 16. My grandson is 17 and looks much younger than this young man. I don’t think there is anything alarming about a 21 year old girl dating someone who looked like him. No one is being harmed .

demonheed · 02/01/2024 23:05

"I bet he has loads in common with a 21 year old"

Yeah, fifa and darts. Not all people are the same. It's their life, understandable at that age

EasternStandard · 02/01/2024 23:07

I’ve never watched darts but I’m impressed he’s doing so well, and could win half a million

Teenageannoyingoaf · 02/01/2024 23:11

It's not so much that he is 16 and she is 21. Although I would always wonder what a 21 year old woman would see in a 16 year old boy. He has an amazing future in front of him. It is that she may be using him with that in mind. And that could really hinder his progress. A relationship that may not be benign.

Romeiswheretheheartis · 02/01/2024 23:16

If it was a 16 year old girl and a 21 year old man people would be horrified

When I was 17, and at school in 6th form, my boyfriend was 22 and had left school at 16. I don't remember anyone being horrified.

LMFAO!!!!!! 😂

Anything to say about this @Crimsonripple ??? 😆

(I doubt it!) Grin

.

decionsdecisions62 · 02/01/2024 23:28

Well now he is probably loaded so she's probably a very canny 21 year old!

MumPod · 02/01/2024 23:31

Firstly, he doesn't look 16. I thought he looked in his 30s. I do find it a little creepy as he is only 16. But there's nothing illegal. He's old enough to date who he wants . 🤔

Exactly. Most 21 year olds are students taking exams too.

Who on earth bonds over uniform and exams? People bond over things they actually like.
