16 year old darts player and his 21 year old girlfriend.

I'm no darts fan but I've seen loads about this new player Luke Littler who is 16 and is doing very well. His girlfriend is 21, am I the only one who rinks this is inappropriate? (Despite the fact that he looks about 38).

OP posts:

‘I would expect a member of staff to report it to me if they knew a 16 year old was in a relationship with a 21 year old.’

if she was his coach or in a position of influence like a teacher or boss, maybe. But she does nails for a living.
still, a mystery what she sees in a 16 year old who looks like a middle aged man and is about to win half a million quid…

Ewoklady · 03/01/2024 20:42

I am so happy for Luke !! He looks like a decent lad with tonnes of talent. I was teaching at 21 in secondary so I know I wouldn’t have looked at anyone younger than me but to be honest they don’t look different in age.

focusing on his talent here … good luck Luke and this will change his life

Having finally looked him up I agree that these threads are about snobbery. Hes a working class boy with parents who do working class jobs, who supported his interest and talent in darts (when he was still in nappies) by taking him round pubs so that he had access to a proper dart board

No one would be talking about him like this if he had a 'respectable' interest as a junior talent in acting or chess or any other discipline and have parents who were teachers or professionals in some way

Plus he's from up north. It must be horrific for the average user of this forum

And another nasty comment

ssd · 03/01/2024 21:10

Its amazing this thread was started as a poster was concerned at the age difference between him and his girlfriend yet there seems to be no end of posters chipping in with snidey digs about what his girlfriend sees in him, or how he looks or what he weighs.

So being concerned for an age difference is ok but commenting on his look, weight, prospects is even more ok?

I hope he wins the half million tonight A. Because he deserves it and B. Because it would piss an awful lot of mn posters right off

Also a mystery why you would make those implications about a 16 year old. Some people just hate seeing success in other people.

Roundycippae · 03/01/2024 23:09

The upshot is, he’s over the age of consent, so if he wants to go out with a 21 year old and can find one who’ll go out with a 16 year old then it’s his business. Or possibly his mums.

As for the shite about him being a school boy, he's not. He doesn't go to school 🤷🏽‍♀️🤣

BBC News tonight said he does.

oh, well that’s alright then. What 16 year old needs an education, eh?

100% this. It is utter snobbery. Some posters on here just cannot BEAR it that Luke is a working-class ordinary lad with no qualifications - except 1 GCSE, and he is so so SO successful, and now rich too!

And as for the poster who is pearl clutching at him having ham and cheese omelette, and pizza, and kebab to eat. LMFAO! 😆 PEAK MUMSNET!

I know right. The bitterness and jealousy towards this young man is fierce from some. The hate and vitriol is shameful.

She used to work with kids…

And what the actual fuck is this comment getting at.....?? What a snidey, cunty thing to say ....come on, explain what you mean by this @MorganKitten

This thread is absolutely fucking hateful. I don't know how some of you sleep at night!

FreshWinterMorning · 03/01/2024 23:33

AMEN to that @TheDuck2018 Some foul, nasty, vile comments on this thread.

MadWifeInTheAttic · 03/01/2024 23:34

I think you're weird and prurient to pry into the personal lives of two young people you don't know.

I think you're full of it.

This thread is pretty vile.

Snuggleyou · 03/01/2024 23:47

It’s always like that on here. Full of snobs.

I know plenty of people who went to university who aren’t too clever. Think it’s overrated these days unless you want to be a doctor or lawyer etc.

She worked with kids. It’s a statement. Not like most of the comments on here. So take from it what you will. No side. Just fact

You've now deliberately missed off the eclipses from your initial post because you know it was a particularly malicious comment with intent to cast aspersions.
Don't try and come the innocent now, we've seen what you wrote.
And I ask again, what was the point of it? Please explain why it has any relevance.

MadWifeInTheAttic · 03/01/2024 23:54

Reported the thread to MNHQ. Hopefully others have, too.

I find it incredible that a site like Mumsnet would host a thread attacking a young lad of sixteen and a young lass who happened to be his girlfriend when he was unexpectedly catapulted to world stardom this week.

TheDuck2018 · 03/01/2024 23:58

*ellipses

Fuck autocorrect alongside a lot of the hideous posters on this vile thread.

I agree with you and have done the same. Some of the comments on here are disgusting.
