I think I am, actually, but can't put my finger on why I feel cross about this...

Walking back from nursery, dd2 took a bit of a tumble. No damage done, not even particularly upset about it.

Was walking next to another mum (not together, but sort of with each other iykwim) and she immediately said to dd2 "oh you've scraped your knee - it's not the end of the world"

I was a bit because dd2 wasn't crying.

The thing is, I wouldn't have given dd2 any sympathy, so it's not that she was unsympathetic, I think it's more that it is my job to decide not to be sympathetic, not hers... does that make sense, and AIBU to be a bit pissed off?

And thanks to everyone for telling me how utterly unreasonable I was being... I have now managed to put my finger on why I was cross.

Twas the tone of her voice.

Not what she said, just the way she said it.

And actually, I think it is completely reasonable to be a bit pissed off when someone talks to your child in a nasty tone.

But I'm so over it now.

Thanks again.

Squonk - losing the remote is close to being a capital crime and a good choice to be U about - until you find it somewhere where only you could have put it, of course

Other mother's remark - it's quite possible she immediately thought "Oh sh*t, shouldn't have said that" having automatically said what she would say to one of her DC?

stealthsquiggle · 17/03/2008 13:19

oops - cross post - tone makes all the difference

CatIsSleepy · 17/03/2008 13:22

so you were being reasonable after all squonk?
phew
was worried there for a moment...

WhenIrishSquonksAreSmiling · 17/03/2008 13:23

Reasonableness is resumed chez squonk

well. Apart from the loss of the remote control, and I think we're all agreed that there is no unreasonableness there whatsoever

CatIsSleepy · 17/03/2008 13:27

well I'm sure the children will 'fess up eventually- it's in their own interests surely

WhenIrishSquonksAreSmiling · 17/03/2008 13:28

I love the way that SM can type in a Scottish accent.

Even if she was called MumofOneChild, she would still be instantly recognisable as being Scottish.

I heart SM

MadameCh0let · 17/03/2008 13:48

Is that your first child? I have so many children I don't even notice if they fall, if somebody else notices and picks them up and brushes them down, I'm grateful

stealthsquiggle · 17/03/2008 13:49

but furry womble knees don't graze so easily..

MadameCh0let · 17/03/2008 13:54

That's true. Also, put the plasters on before you go out. Pre-emptive measure. Little wombles love plasters, scrape or no scrape.

WhenIrishSquonksAreSmiling · 17/03/2008 14:18

MadameCholet - she is the middle one of three.

I wasn't being precious. And if the woman had picked her up, again it wouldn't have bothered me, it was just the tone of her voice as she said what she said, before disappearing.

It was a 'had to be there' AIBU I think. If you lot had heard her, you would deffo have thought I was NBU.

MadameCh0let · 17/03/2008 14:22

OK, totally shun her forevermore.

WhenIrishSquonksAreSmiling · 17/03/2008 14:23

or... I could be really, scarily nice to her

OP posts:
MadameCh0let · 17/03/2008 14:31

Yeah, that's better, invite her 'round to meditate with you.

WhenIrishSquonksAreSmiling · 17/03/2008 14:31

um...

no

OP posts:
MadameCh0let · 17/03/2008 14:32

You need silence to meditate actually. What was I thinking. I haven't experienced silence for 5 yrs.

WhenIrishSquonksAreSmiling · 17/03/2008 14:34

ha! beat ya!

I haven't experienced silence for fourteen and a half years

nerr nerr
