Is this COVID?

So, I started getting symptoms before Xmas, which soon developed into terrible cough, coughed up blood, extremely sore throat, horrible sinus issues, feeling week, and shivering, and tired, I slept for about 24 hours at first. I had low blood oxygen levels, low temperature, and an elevated heart rate. I went to the doctor and had some antibiotics for my throat, and sinus which have worked like a charm for my throat and sinus issues

However,I still have a hacking cough throughout the day which has made me vomit, and most evenings my symptoms ramp up further in that I feel shivery, and tired, and a bit wobbly. My blood oxygen goes down again and my heart is that bit faster. This has been going on for a few days now.

I have tested negative for COVID twice, but could it be COVID???

Could be but there are non covid viruses that are almost the same. My kid was ill before Christmas, I was convinced it was Covid despite negative tests as it was just the same as I’d had a week before. but then he ended up with the ‘real thing’ over Christmas - looked and felt pretty much the same

CovidOvid · 01/01/2024 22:46

I hope you're both feeling better

I tested negative for 4 times before I got my positive, despite days of symptoms. I knew it was coming because DH had already tested positive.

That said, other virus’s are floating around. DS was really ill two weeks before us with what we thought was covid but he tested positive days after I did.

XenoBitch · 01/01/2024 22:47

Other viruses are available.

You have what you have. Would knowing what it is really make any difference?

CovidOvid · 01/01/2024 22:48

@LikeIDontExist how many days into it were you before you started to test positive?

@XenoBitch I think it would make a difference to know, yes.

Does it really matter what the NAME of the illness is? You’re ill. End of. Knowing the name won’t make it better or worse.

Nobody here can tell you whether your cough is Covid.

If your throat and sinus issues were cured with antibiotics, then they weren’t Covid. Antibiotics don’t clear up viral infections. There’s a chance you might have Covid separately but if you’re currently testing negative it could be a bacterial chest infection that you haven’t shaken off. Go back to the doctor.

How do you know what your blood oxygen level is? Do you have an existing health condition that requires you to test it regularly or something?

Are you unaware that the NHS encouraged the public to buy oximeters early on in the pandemic? About £15. Very useful for home monitoring and knowing when to call for help. They also gave lots out as part of the hospital@home initiative.

Also, secondary bacterial infections often occur in tissues already compromised by a virus.

you can take a test every day to see if it’s covid.

I have covid right now (positive test)
it’s been exhaustion crosssed with a cold/sore throat and temperature. My dh also had persistent toilet visits with it, but otherwise fared better than me.
