To call in sick tomorrow?

I’ve been quite poorly since Thursday evening.
Started with cold shivers, body aches, fever and now I also have a cough. My head is still very heavy. Shortness of breath too. I have no energy to do anything. Also have no appetite. I’ve not showered in days which is pretty gross & when I put on a wash today, I felt so exhausted had to lie down shortly after.

I work from home but just don’t have the energy to be productive as I still feel quite unwell. This is the worst I’ve felt in a very long time. I will be contacting my doctors tomorrow once they’re open but have been having lemsip since Thursday evening.

I’m just worried about work thinking Im not really sick, with it being the first day back after the Christmas break.

I have exactly the same symptoms and back to work Wednesday, really panicking about potentially having to call in sick. I feel so rough but hoping I will start to feel a bit better tomorrow. In teaching you are largely expected to just crack on but if I feel like I do today I wouldn't be able to go in and teach a full day.

Hope you feel better soon!

If your to poorly to work then absolutely call in sick. I wouldn’t be ringing the doctors though for a virus/bug/flu it’s something that can be managed at home. All return to works ask if you’ve contacted a doctor but it’s unreasonable to see one for your symptoms just so you can tell work yes you have contacted a doctor.

If you're too sick to work then it won't even be a question in your mind tomorrow.

If your GP surgery is anything like mine, there’s no way you’ll get through tomorrow - first day back to normal after Christmas.

I've had the same since xmas eve - had to go off sick in between xmas and NY but didn't feel guilty , I was really sick ! Going back tomorrow , still a bit sick but I know I'll be tired but fine . I wouldn't worry about it , but I think them expecting you to call GP for a bad cold is unreasonable.

If you’re that unwell then of course you should call in sick! Hope you recover quickly.

I had exactly this 4 weeks ago and still have the cough now. I was completely wiped out and couldn't wash or get changed into clean pj's for 5 days. Struggled to move. DS was also sick at the same time and we had to have food delivered to us.

It sounds exactly the same as whatever it is I've got. I've even feeling unwell since Boxing Day. I wfh too. Planned to try to struggle through the day, but just relented and called in sick. Really don't think I'd be much use to anyone feeling like this.

I’ve just called in sick, another day in bed is needed here. I won’t feel guilty, I’d rather not be sick and be working!

sh0rtbread · 02/01/2024 13:34

I ended up calling sick. Had a rough night with hot sweats and lots of tossing and turning.

Hope everyone feels better soon. It’s kind of reassuring I’m not the only one with these symptoms!

Aww hope you feel better soon, you did the right thing! Lots of water and rest is needed. Trying to tell myself that it's okay to call in sick tomorrow too.

I did a test out of interest and was very much positive for Covid. I just sent work a text to give them the heads up that I am feeling awful and said I will call in the morning. I'm now sat here in a pool of anxiety as well as being ill.
