Posting here for traffic as I need help.

my 10 month old has just fallen out my bed he's been badly teething I put him in my bed round 2am my parter got up to use the bathroom and he's falling out over the side he cried for a minute but then settled but he's going back to sleep now should I let him? I'm in tears myself cause I feel so guilty there is no sign off injury I can't believe it. I don't know what to do. Should I keep him up?

Hello lovely
He probably cried out of shock ... did you feel round his head for any lumps or bumps ?

Have you checked his arms and legs to make sure they are ok ?

IfOnlyOurEyesSawSouls · 01/01/2024 05:35

Please please try to go easy on yourself... my DD fell off the bed as a baby.

If you are still worried tomorrow and you need some reassurance, take him to the walk in centre.
You wont be judged, this happens to SO many parents.

Cmonluv · 01/01/2024 05:35

How high is your ed? Whatsnyoir flooring? How did he land? We have a low ISH bed and my eldest used to roll out with alarming regularity around that age but by 10 months he was walking and talking and would literally stand up unharmed and pull himself back up into bed. My daughter is less bouncy so I'd have worried more but she'd fallen out too and been grand.

If he landed on his head on a hardwood floor from a high sleigh bed different story maybe

Pretty quick was fine with a cuddle he's going back to sleep now but I'm just so worried I can't see me going to sleep i'll no doubt sit and stare at him. I can't believe it I can't stop crying I feel so guilty

He's probably OK if you've checked him over and he's 10 months. Keep an eye on him.

Have you read the lullaby trust safe sleeping guidelines for co sleeping? With you saying your partner got out of the bed and he fell out, it sounds like he was between you and your partner. When I had DD (2020) guidance was to be between mum and a bed guard or equivalent, not between both parents I think.

Go and splash your face with some cold water and take some slow deep breaths.

You have checked baby , reassured baby and he has settled.

If you need reassurance tomorrow to settle your mind pop to the walk in centre.

I know this seems horrendous at the moment but the panic and guilt and worry will pass.

Passingthethyme · 01/01/2024 05:39

Don't worry lovely, if you are worried get him checked. I remember early on someone saying this happens to everyone and I thought they were ridiculous until it happened to me. DH dropped DC off the bed and I dropped him off the couch. Just check for signs of a concussion, but I'm sure he'll be fine Flowers

IfOnlyOurEyesSawSouls · 01/01/2024 05:41

If baby is settled and safe then go and get yourself a comforting drink .

Ok, deep breath, you're sleep deprived and anxious, which is normal, we've all been there. Either turn on a light or get your phone torch. Lie baby down and check baby over for marks to see if you can work out where they've bumped. Shine the light over their eyes to check they're reacting, lift their eyelids one at a time and check pupils are same size and get smaller with light.

Ask yourself if you're worried baby got hurt or just killed with mum guilt like you always will be if baby gets hurt?

Worst case scenario wake baby up and go downstairs and check they're acting normally and if still worried call 111. These things happen to every parent and child, there will be bumps and scrapes for years to come. It's going to be ok

sleepdeprivedma · 01/01/2024 05:41

Relax. Go back to sleep. Advicd from a parent whose 6 monthh only fell off a bed. She's a teen now. It happens. Don't worry.

sleepdeprivedma · 01/01/2024 05:46

He seemed absolutely fine once he resettled if was hurt he's still be crying right? I've used my. Phone torch can't spot anything

Your not a bad mum and if you think baby is ok then i see no reason not to let him sleep.

They say to watch them an hour after a head bump, fine to let them sleep though. Just check they're rousable, then check every hour that they're rousable.

BubbleBubbleBubbleBubblePop · 01/01/2024 05:58

This has happened to most of us at some point. I remember the shock and fear when it happened to me! I also remember watching mine like a hawk after her fall from the settee, convinced something terrible was going to happen.

If baby vomits, then you must get him checked out. Otherwise, he will more than likely be absolutely fine.

newoldfluff · 01/01/2024 06:07

Phone 111.

TookTheBook · 01/01/2024 06:54

I agree about checking safe co sleeping guidelines - surely baby isn't between you and partner? Where is your partner while you're crying about all this - shouldn't he be supporting you?

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 01/01/2024 07:11

So many babies have fallen out of bed at some point, often when their parents discover they can roll. They are nearly always completely fine. Don’t panic. Familiarise yourself with relevant red flags and be vigilant.

Vegetus · 01/01/2024 07:18

My son fell off my chest and landed on his head. Babies are tough as nails don't beat yourself up about it. Accidents happen.

Ladyj84 · 01/01/2024 07:32

Baby would have only cried from a quick shock. There bodies are relaxed and floppy while sleeping so they don't fall like adults tensed up and get hurt , not from falls like that usually. Why is baby not in his own cot? I know a fair few who also have had a cot mattress down the side of there beds for the just in case baby fell off. It's probably worth considering a cot tho 10months and little one will soon be rolling about all over

rubywoooooo · 01/01/2024 07:55

was the baby in between you? This isn’t safe.

Angelik · 01/01/2024 07:56

@newoldfluff wtf wld you call 111?

ReindeerShelter · 01/01/2024 08:00

It happens to nearly all parents, don’t feel bad about it.

But you should have got baby checked out via 111 straight away and you should be following Safe Sleeping Guidelines.

Angelik · 01/01/2024 07:56

@newoldfluff wtf wld you call 111?

Because they will go through questions which will determine if baby needs medical help or not. This cannot be done by mumsnet users as OP has no idea if they are trained or not.
