To think we're about to see an influx of XL Bully attacks after a rehoming free for all?

So I know the ban is about to come in. Plenty for it, many against it. Not trying to start a debate about that!

Yesterday someone on my FB shared a post from a woman who was offering to rehome an XL to save it before the ban came in. Someone commented with a group for rehoming XLs before it's too late and banned and I clicked on it for a look.

I was absolutely gobsmacked by the posts on the group. Hundreds of posts going back weeks of XLs needing new homes (I suppose expected) - but a VERY high and panicked volume of posts over the past few days, as the ban approaches.

Lots of pictures of dogs with !!URGENT!! rehoming requests. From people asking on behalf of their friend, because their HA just told them XLs are banned under their tenancy, for the XL they just found abandoned behind Tesco, because they bred an XL litter this year and a buyer has just dumped an 8 month old pup back with them. Lots of reasons. Incredibly sad for the dogs, none of this is of their making.

But it's the reaponses. Comments and comments from people offering to rehome an XL to save them. Highlights were 'willing to take one but must be good with children as I have a 5 year old'. 'I wish I could have both but I'm in a flat so one is my limit, please contact me'. 'I have an XL already who is brilliant with the kids, happy to add another poor baby to our pack'.

Dogs are currently being panic-rehomed all over the Country. People are offering their services to transport the XL from Devon to the family in Yorkshire who've agreed to take it. No home checks, no behavioural checks of the dogs, people aren't even meeting the dog they're agreeing to home. Lots and LOTS being shipped to Scotland in particular where there's no ban.

It's truly frightening the amount of people with young dc agreeing to blindly rehome an XL to save them. I wouldn't rehome a bloody Yorkie without meeting the dog first never mind an XL!

This is going to end in tragedy, surely?

AIBU to think the ban on privately rehoming them should have been immediate at point of announcement to prevent this madness? And also that, sadly, we're likely to be reading several tragic stories in the coming weeks about one of these panic-rehomed dogs turning?

Says the person who thinks there’s only 2 wars happening in the world 😂 clearly you don’t watch enough news.

I have to say, the defenders of these bully things are not overwhelming with their debating skills and skilled command of the English language, are they?

I'm haven't read the whole thread....

But essentially, these people are morons and seemingly incapable of rational/sensible thinking.

You reap what you sow and all that. I just hope that innocent people/animals aren't hurt in the crossfire.

Met several..out of control, one tried to savage my well trained dog and I had to release her..another dog it went for also escaped while the turd of the owner stood hopelessly on shouting at the mouldy lasagne mouthed monster
XLbullies are owned by utter irresponsible idiots as evinced by the sheer amount of the maulers being dumped.

There are laws and safeguards in place that ban men (well, all humans really) from harming others and consequences for when they do. We don't just allow humans to wander around unregulated.

As for cars, you have pointed out that a license is needed. In order to drive my car I needed to take lessons, I needed to pass a test to prove my competence, I need a license, insurance and to pay road tax. I need to pay upkeep on my vehicle and certify each year that it is safe to be driven on the roads. If I violate Amy of the myriad of driving laws then my vehicle can be seized and I could be convicted of a crime.

Speaking of licenses, I need one to watch television.

I have to have a gas safety certificate in order to have a gas boiler in my rented home.

I have to be DBS checked to do my job.

But they'll let any old thick cunt own a dog without any sort of training or checks.

The ‘nanny dog’ myth has been debunked multiple times.

The link below is from someone supportive of the breed who thinks the myth is incredibly dangerous for the dog as it sets them up to fail because people are dim enough to think that means they are safe around children in every circumstance.

https://www.grandtetonbullies.com/post/no-such-thing-as-a-nanny-dog

Edited: I have deliberately linked the most sympathetic article I could find. There are multiple others that are very much anti-bully. It can be seen that nobody on either side of the argument who knows anything about the breeds agrees with this bizarre myth.

No such thing as a "nanny dog"

I have been wanting to write about this topic for quite some time and am finally getting to it. Let's get into it. No, the American Pit Bull Terrier, Staffordshire Terrier, American Bully or any other breed is not a "nanny dog" and it is counter produc...

Yeah all this nanny dog bullshit....

It's just trotted out by simpletons because it fits nicely with their warped narrative.

People like you are dangerous dog owners. I wouldn’t say any dog “would not hurt a fly”. They’re animals and they’re always a risk.

I’d judge you the same if you said that about your tiny fluffy Cavadoodlepoospaniel btw.

Dog lover here but I am scared and uncomfortable around large breeds. I would shit myself walking past one of these in the street however other than the poor dogs who have done nothing wrong I feel really sorry for the responsible owners who have worked hard and provided excellent training for their dogs. In the last few weeks I’ve seen some amazing videos on tiktok of owners with their XL bully’s who would put my dog to shame. They are so well trained. People ruin dogs by thinking it’s a status symbol and not bothering to take the time to train and care for them. Selling dogs should be streamlined (can’t think of the right word), no buying via social media or gumtree. I’d provided and stored on purchase. The mass breeding of dogs and the lack of care to where they end up is the problem. Any size of dog can be vicious, fair enough a smaller dog is less likely to kill, but still able to cause lasting permanent damage.

KarenNotAKaren · 01/01/2024 01:06

@Strawberryjams Facebook have now banned the sale of any animals, and will delete and give a warning to anyone trying their luck. Small progress!

Id love a dog but honestly I couldn’t cope with stupid dog owners these days. Going for a walk sans dog is stressful enough with untrained whatever-a-poo’s humping my leg or snapping at my face as their half-wit owners shout “it’s ok she’s friendly”. I CBA throwing another dog into the mix!

That’s great is it all animals? Small step in the right direction.

It’s such a shame that people ruin it for others. We used to have a rescue lurcher who was the most placid and amazing dog. She was attacked on two separate occasions by dogs off their leads and not responding to their owners recall. This is partly now why I am so scared of larger breeds. When she passed we opted for a small breed, one that I can scoop up should any other dogs approach. The ‘it’s ok she’s friendly line’ really pisses me off. I don’t care, I don’t want your dog near me!

Have FB really banned the sale AND 'adoption' of animals??
I don't go on FB these days, but social media is where so many of these dogs were sold - the one who slaughtered little Jack Lees was bought off Facebook.

The next thing that needs to stop is 'Pets for homes' and Gumtree and all those awful sites where wormy XL Bullies were being sold by the hundreds.

The paddle legged look of so many were testament to a gut full of roundworms - just appallingly 'bred'...probably siblings thrown together to make a litter - the coefficient of inbreeding of these things is atrocious.

The ones that were shown attacking a man on a Station had such terrible cow hocks that they were flapping about like frogs.

Someone referred to them as ''Genetic hellhole of a dog'' -seems they aren't far wrong.

'Responsible' breeders of dogs dig deep into the personality /temperament and health of the dogs they are looking to breed - the coefficient of inbreeding is calculated.

I haven't bred any animal, because it's such a big responsibility ensuring they find lifelong {hopefully} good homes, but a lot of these XL Bullies have been through as many as seven homes in two years.

Testament to the poor temperament and feckless ownership that this type of 'status' dog suffers from.

Yes my colleague tried to rehome his snake on Facebook for free and got a really serious bollocking! Seems fair.

Aww I fostered a lurcher once, great big soppy thing she was and the kindest soul. But yes they seem to be fair game for other dogs, I think the speed of them makes badly trained dogs think they can chase them.

Do you really expect people to keep track of your other posts to know if you are being sarcastic or not? How incredibly arrogant of you.

Maybe next time use one of the universally recognised symbols of sarcasm (/s for example).
