I know IABU posting this here but I’m worried and DH is being dismissive.

I have just had very sudden onset left hand eye visual disturbance - it was a semi circle in the far left that looked like it was under water. Moving and blurry.

It started after DH tried to massage my shoulder and caused a lot of pain.

I woke up with a really painful left hand shoulder in between my shoulder blade and spine. The pain is going down to my elbow and through to my chest. Wrong side for heart.

I’ve now got a headache on the right hand side and vision is back to normal.

The visual thing lasted around one minute.

Any ideas? I don’t want to call 111 as I’m ok. Headache and a bad shoulder is all now.

Im not usually anxious about health stuff but that scared me a bit!

That 100% fits the description of a migraine with aura. When the aura goes away, the headache starts.

It's worth getting checked as the advice is to see your GP if you start getting migraines when you didn't previously, or if there is a change in your migraines (if you're already a sufferer). It is very possible to start getting them in adulthood though, it's just sensible to make a routine appointment to get advice.

But honestly what you've described is absolutely classic migraine symptoms.

It could be a TIA, if so, you need to be seen by a doctor. You should call 111 and get advice.

I get migraines but recently started with a new type that invokes a different type of visual disturbance and also very sharp muscular pain about my neck and shoulder. Your experience sounds very similar to mine.

Given how it started you should absolutely get this checked.

ExH had classic migraine symptoms that were dismissed as such when it was damage to a blood vessel (that can happen with massage) and led to him having a stroke.

Obviously this is rare, but please get this checked out. Do not assume that because MNers say it’s a migraine that this is what it is.

Hi OP, I’m an optometrist. Your symptoms have some similarities to visual/optical migraine as others have said. However these usually last 15-30mins rather than a minute. As it occurred after a massage I’d have some concerns it was something vascular causing a temporary blood supply issue to the eye (which then righted itself) I think a call to 111 for advice is a good idea 👍🏻
