New Year's resolutions

Sorry if there's already a thread on this.

What are yours?

Mine are fairly bog standard - I want to lose weight and become fitter and healthier. I've massively over indulged over Christmas and in fact my eating and drinking habits have been going downhill for the past few years. I am overweight and I'm in my late 30's now. I'm aware that if I don't do something soon my health will suffer and I'll find it a lot harder to lose weight.

My plan is to stick to a calorie deficit or as close as possible. No more snacking and reduce processed crap.
Make a conscious effort to exercise daily even if it's just a walk.
Quit booze (start with dry January and see how i go - a lot of my bad eating habits and lack of exercise stem from either spending my evenings on the sofa with a wine or feeling hungover and therefore eating crap and being lazy).
On that theme, use my evenings more productively either reading or decluttering. Just not drinking basically.

I don't know if these will stick. I have yo-yo'd with my weight for years. But I feel sick to death of being bloated and lethargic now and having the daily battle with my wardrobe because nothing looks nice on me.

Would love to hear your resolutions...

None.

I only do fun ones. This year, every time I see a shape of pasta I haven’t tried before I’m going to try it.

Moreorlessmentallystable · 30/12/2023 22:43
  1. To do less for others and more for myself.
  2. To only socialize with people that also make an effort back.
  3. To get stronger and fitter
  4. To finally start a big project that my husband and I have been planning for a couple of years.
80skid · 30/12/2023 22:47

I'm similar in the drastically cutting alcohol and losing weight target. I don't want to be tee total but I do usually drink every weekend and I think this is holding back my weight loss. I have an event I need to be slimmer for over summer, but I also need to lose weight for me.
More fun. Socialise with positive people and put distance with negative ones.

Doyouthinktheyknow · 30/12/2023 22:58

I only do meaningless ones, January is hard enough anyway!

My resolution which will fail quickly is to finish one crochet project before starting another and to use up my yarn stash before buying more.

I would like to do dry January but it’s a shit month and I didn’t last beyond the first Friday last year so I’m not even trying.

I am trying to lose a little bit of weight but it’s not going well.

alibongo5 · 30/12/2023 23:05

Last year my resolution was to teach myself to like white wine. I love red but always like the idea of having a cold white in the summer. I achieved it to a certain extent but I think was held back by our lack of summer. Maybe 2024 will be better.

Dry January
Sign up to a half marathon (it's the only way I can stick to an exercise regime)

Fewer UPFs

I could do with losing some weight but I'd rather try and get fitter. Losing weight would be a bonus.

I want to try and make more time for my relaxing stuff such as reading and diamond art.

Must save hard for my holiday in June 2025.

Cut down on takeaways and cook even when I'm bloody knackered! We usually have one per week but it all adds up and I need to save for my holiday as previously stated.

WithIcePlease · 30/12/2023 23:49

Go to sleep half an hour earlier is my main one which should be doable and hopefully becomes ingrained.

Changing my gym routine and working on pull ups is a fun one.

Cooking new dishes - I had thought of doing 23 new dishes in 2023 but took my eye off the ball with recording so no idea if I succeeded- probs over 15 so that's a win.

My biggie is getting rid of stuff - I'm hopeful that 2024 will be my last full year in current house and I don't want to pay for unnecessary stuff to go to storage.

Pinkyponker · 30/12/2023 23:54

To try and use my phone less. I have serious phone addiction and spend so much time endlessly scrolling facebook (and mumsnet).
I have set a digital balance timer to remind me how much screen time I have daily and honestly it's absolutely shocking 😩

TeenLifeMum · 30/12/2023 23:55

Mine will be lose weight and next year’s will be get a new job.

PTSDBarbiegirl · 31/12/2023 00:21

Resolutions just make me feel under pressure so now I don't give myself the pressure but try to say to myself I'll keep enjoying simple but new pleasures.

Sparklesocks · 31/12/2023 00:28

To lose weight (yawn I know, sorry)

Transition back to work after mat leave and balancing that with baby (😵‍💫)

Find the parts of myself I’ve lost a little since becoming a mum

TicketyBoo11 · 31/12/2023 00:39

Well I am putting the pressure on myself because no one is going to do it for me and these things need to be accomplished.

1: Lose the weight I’ve been depressed about for the last few years. It’s 2 stone, it’s do-able with effort.
2: Dry January and some..
3: sleep better in order to give me more daytime energy

Lets go..!

Disneydatknee88 · 31/12/2023 01:02

I have a few. I try dry January every year and fail because once you tell yourself you can't have it, it's all you want! But I do want to only drink on a Friday evening and not those couple on a Wednesday as a reward for making it half way through the week. I want to sack off all the diet fads and focus on eating cleaner. No counting stuff. Just focus on food that will make me feel better. I've planned a once a week activity with my daughter as she's getting older and won't want to spend time with me soon! (trialed it already for 3 months and she's loved it). I have a baking bucket list this year. I love baking but hardly find time anymore. One year I want to watch bake off and be like yeh I've tried that, for every obscure thing.

Raspberryjamsandwich · 31/12/2023 01:20

For me, i want this year to be about focusing on improving my health and fitness generally so that I can be the best mum for my children.
• eat the rainbow
• Move more
• drink more water
• get to bed earlier
• less scrolling
• being more present in the moment with the kids
• finding the joy in the everyday things I take for granted

Jackfrostnippingatmynose · 31/12/2023 10:23
  • lose weight (yawn - I know!) I've kept up the gym over the last year but need to tackle my emotional eating as losing weight will help with my sore knees
  • less online SM and more real life with real live friends!
  • declutter my wardrobe/home office. Wfh means I don't need lots of work clothes as long as I have a couple of decent shirts for conf calls!
  • fade out a couple of relationships with f&f that I've realised are no longer working for me. Will be interesting to see if any of them make the effort to contact me in 2024.
Midgetwithaplan · 31/12/2023 10:46

Mine is to finish what I start, in all aspects of my life. About 2 decades ago I started to adopt the 80% of a task is good enough approach to life as a way to get things started. Now I seem to have taken that to the extreme and nothing in my life is ever finished, resulting in mess and clutter everywhere, half finished DIY projects, hoovers that are put away full so I have to empty them before using, piles of clean washing that need to be put away etc, as well diet and exercise plans that I start and never finish. So before I start something, I'm going to take 30 seconds to think about what the end point will be, even something like having breakfast this morning, the end point is when the kitchen is returned to the clean state it was in when I started making breakfast, not when I've eaten and left a plate on the table and a frying pan on the stove!

TheSweetestHalleluja · 31/12/2023 19:13

I want to get better at budgeting and I also want to do more baking.

Hoglet70 · 31/12/2023 19:18
  1. Lose all the weight I've piled on this year.
  2. Find a new job because mine makes me paranoid.
  3. Write a book (I know, I know lol) but I read utter rubbish and it will be fun trying. I need a hobby.
