To tell DH that he stinks and it's making me nauseous

Dh just came back inside from having a cig. I told him he stinks and it is making me feel nauseous. I am 7 weeks pregnant and the smell has been making me feel sick for at least 2 weeks now.

He just left the room and looked hurt. I think he thinks I am exaggerating as I really want him to stop smoking, which I do. I stopped when I was got pregnant with DS he was supposed to stop before DS was born, DS is now 1.5yrs old.

Should I have kept my mouth shut? I feel bad now like I'm nagging

Op it's a heightened sense of smell when pregnant. To do with making sure you don't eat food that's off.

I remember making DH bin a can of Sure deodorant, i think it had a bit of purple on it, omg it stunk to high heaven. He thought I was taking the piss when I complained - really you want me to bin it!

Becoming a dad isn’t enough reason for him to stop smoking? I know several people who stopped smoking overnight one of whom because he was about to become a parent. What bigger motivation could there be? If not now, it’ll never happen…

‘Gagging and fainting???’ What? You kept fainting? Like falling to the floor, coming round, fainting again….and this was second hand smoke? I’m trying to imagine this scenario….🤔

I can't cope with the 'gagging and fainting' - hilarious 🤣😂🤣

@LaughingCat see I def don't want to make him feel bad

Anyway he had said he is quitting tomorrow. He has listened to the Alan Carr book, well apart from the very end he says you don't listen to that until you are done. He has had tablets from the doctor. I know it is difficult I really do and I am trying to support him but he won't talk to me about it.

@gratefulforcousins that is possible but I would think my smell is back, I quit smoking in Nov 2021. Within a few weeks really it was incredible how much I could smell smoke off of DH

A few of ye have mentioned vapes, but is he not better off just trying to stop all together? A friend of mine is 4 months off the cigs now but glued to her vape. She said she wishes she didn't start on it and her chest is awful from it

"Gagging and fainting"? Good grief.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

What was the deal when you married/decided to have a baby? Unless he promised to quit, then you decided to marry and have children with a smoker and it's not really fair to punish him for that decision.

I don't think that you are nagging, you are protecting your family's health.

People will have different views but I’m with you. If you keep putting nicotine into your body, you never tackle the issue. It’s not cigarettes you’re addicted to, it’s nicotine. So nicotine replacement is only drawing out the quitting process…makes it so much harder to actually get there. I do think it is how the book says - you quit in spite of the NRT, not because of it.
