Hi

just wondered if anyone knows of what this could be ? I’m not concerned or worried about it - I just find it interesting and wondered what the cause was!

I had surgery a few months ago and the entire area around the top of my head where I had the surgery is still completely numb (I was told it would take 12 months to fully come back)

but one thing I’ve noticed ever since 2 weeks post surgery when the bandages came off, is that if I touch an area at the edge of the numb area, I can sort of feel it on the area itself but I also suddenly get a feeling at the side of my head too about 6 inches from the surgery area and this feeling here is much stronger. At first I thought it was maybe from all the swelling disrupting where I was feeling things but the fluid and swelling has gone and it still happens now.

So basically, when I press at the top of my head it sort of feels a little numb but I’m sort of aware I’m touching it. But I also get a feeling of sensation at the side of my head which is much munch stronger and feels like I’m being poked there rather than the top of my head. It’s always the same spot at the side of my head I get the secondary feeling in. Is it something to do with the nerves healing? Or have one of the pain signals for mixed up or something?

as I said, I know it’s normal I was just wondering why it would happen and tried googling but couldn’t find anything!

Sounds like referred pain. The area of numbness is setting off pain in another area of your head. Maybe the area that is numb is connected to the same nerve but you can’t feel the numb area, just the part of the head where the nerve is that has feeling

This is totally normal. Your nerves have been cut and are creating new pathways, they have just got a bit jumbled up in the mix. It will settle down. It's a sign it is healing.

I had similar after my csection, and it was weirdly numb or with referred feeling for about 3 years!!

If you are worried though seek medical advice in person
