AIBU to ask for all of your top tips and ideas for a real overhaul of your health and fitness.
I've got 150 days until an event and I want to see a difference and be proud that I actually did it.

What would you do?

I have lost 65 pounds in 5 months previously with Atkins diet and an increase of exercise ( I’m by no means inactive anyway as I often walk 20000 steps but I added running to it ) . I’m about to start on it mid January

Bluecat7 · 30/12/2023 23:35

Make whatever changes you want, but make them doable for you - for example if you want to get fitter then do it so it fits in with how you are best motivated - do you need other people to motivate you, or can you do couch to 5k just using the app? It’s very easy to come up with loads of ideas and then find that they are really hard to embed into your actual life. Have fun with it!

Ratad · 30/12/2023 23:38

I feel like a leaner healthier (more tanned) me just from reading the comments 😂 I LOVE a thread like this, especially at a new year! I’m going to do the water, sleep, 10 pages of reading (instead of scrolling) and dedicate minimum 30 minutes per day to exercising, even just yoga some days, as well as walking the dog. Not sure how I’m fitting in my kids, working or cleaning my house in amongst this but hey ho 😂

Peaceandquietandacuppa · 30/12/2023 23:47

I need to do similar! Holiday in May.

I plan to try 16:8 and reduce my sugar intake
Get 8 hours sleep
drink more water
Exercise once a day, and up my steps.
Nearer the time I’ll get my lashes tinted and curled and maybe try fake tan if I’m brace enough

I already do a skin routine with hyaluronic acid and retinol which I’m happy with

PartOfTheFurniture12 · 30/12/2023 23:52

I'd restart my Noom diet. I had to stop when I got pregnant but got on very well with it up until that point.

notacooldad · 31/12/2023 00:04

When I need a transformation boost I usually draw an a piece of paper an outline of a body and have a line pointing to each body bit and write what needs doing and the date for the appointment as well as writing the on going stuff at the bottom of the page.
Eg
Hair, cut and color 15th Jan.
Eyebrows/ chin thread 15th Jan
Eyelashes tinted and a few false eyelashes on outer corner
Teeth whitened
Make up practice
Nails
Pedicure and gel mails
Fake light glow tan.

I've had microblading and tattoo eyeliner which has made a huge difference but research carefully if you do this.
LipBlush is booked in for my next up keep.
Every now and again I need to revisit my diet because I let things slip but as others have said, water, protein and veg are the big winners for me.

notacooldad · 31/12/2023 00:05

I forgot to add, there is a new 'princessing' thread on style and beauty for some good ideas.

Chickenpie35 · 31/12/2023 00:10

Low carb

Zero sugar

Loads of water

Exercise / cardio

Exercise / weights more so.

3 meals a day

Early nights.

Things that work for me.

LumiB · 31/12/2023 00:18

Clean eating and weight training 3 times a week with a rest day inbetween you'll notice a difference in as little as 3 weeks in terms of how strong you feel but also your posture will be better etc. So imagine what 150 days will do

Rainbowqueeen · 31/12/2023 00:58

Drink nothing but water and herbal teas

Weights, especially for my upper body

have my colours done or a John Lewis personal shopper appointment

monthly facial

walk 10k steps a day

establish a good sleep routine

WavingCatsandDogs · 31/12/2023 01:25

Weights workouts

Water

High protein and veg , reduce sugar and carbs

Gua Sha twice a day

No alcohol

Lots of comedy because the above ain't that much fun at the beginning.

mathanxiety · 31/12/2023 01:35

Get enough sleep.
Drink 64 fl ozs of water daily.
Cut way back on sugar in all forms, incl alcohol.
More vegetables every day.
More beans/ legumes every day.
Exercise - walk, weights, stretches.

HerRoyalNotness · 31/12/2023 01:41

i was introduced to muscle wiki the other day. I need to strengthen my glutes and core, so will be using that. Just click on the muscle you want to work on and it’ll show 3 or so exercises for that

Lie on the sofa eating crisps for 149 days in complete denial. That’s what I would do.

Thementalloadisreal · 31/12/2023 01:49

In all seriousness, avoid a crash diet. They’re terribly bad for your body and most people put the weight back on and more, and then find it even harder to lose weight because of the way crash dieting affects your hormones.

Togomalone · 31/12/2023 01:53

Good luck- would love to do this!

JamSandle · 31/12/2023 02:04

Gym, a nutritionist, facials and massages, driving lessons.

yespleasedoll · 31/12/2023 05:29

Thanks everyone, so many great ideas and I'm feeling even more motivated!
I don't want to do anything drastic in terms of diet because I want to stick to it and make it a lifestyle.

So i think this is my plan:

Eat 3 healthy meals prioritising protein and adding more veggies. Make 1 or 2 of the meals low carb.

Say no to the takeaways.

Drink 2L water per day

1 caffeinated drink a day

Drastically reduce snacking on chocolate (real downfall for me)

Weight train 2 times a week minimum, preferably 3

Continue to attend my 2 cardio classes weekly

Walk 5000 steps a bare minimum! Sometimes working from home I don't even get to this so making this a base will hopefully encourage me to get going even more.

I have a decent skincare routine but adding body moisturising daily to this

Take vitamins daily

I don't drink much alcohol, I have maybe 3 events between now and then where I'll have a drink.

I will come back in 150 days to let you know if I made any notable difference!

Amazing tips here and highlights the stuff we all know - move more, eat better, water and sleep! Most of those are free too but it’s the discipline to keep it up consistently!

good luck OP! I’m going to be doing some of these too

LoveRules · 31/12/2023 08:05

I find it way easier to cut out all sugar than to cut down if that makes sense.

I had successfully not eaten anything sugary this Christmas despite plenty of it being in the house then had a small slither of Xmas cake which then lowered my will power when tidying the selection boxes. Thought I'd just have one and ended up chain eating the whole lot yesterday. Feel rubbish today - headachey and sluggish so an important lessson learned (again!)

I've been diagnosed with a rare sarcoma and had lots of surgery this year. I am still having surgeries in the New Year but already decided to make some life changes, and be kinder to myself. I am a workaholic, and disabled from some very rare genetic conditions which mean I am usually in the hospital a few times per year having tests, interventions or surgeries. In the recovery room, I made a quiet promise to myself about changing things. Amongst these changes are: (i) reducing alcohol, (ii) travel more, (iii) lose a stone, (iv) gentle exercise with our dogs, (v) decorate the house to make it a home, (vi) find time for hobbies and (vii) be more forgiving of myself and my previous mistakes.

I'm so sorry to hear about your illness. Absolutely in love with your goals!

I’m going to save this thread, so motivating!

Just googled the 75 and realised that the ‘take a photo’ part is a progress photo for before and after type thing, I thought it was a mindful, take a photo of the world/a sunset /lovely flower idea 😂 I prefer mine I think!

shakeitoffsis · 31/12/2023 08:49

Don't have breakfast, fast from 9pm till 12pm and have lunch and tea. Works well for me.

MyBigFatGreekSalad · 31/12/2023 08:55

Any form of realistic exercise that you're likely to stick to long term

Drinking at least 2ltrs of water a day

Eating as little processed foods as possible

Good skin care routine

Easier said that done but finding ways to manage stress, it's insane how stress can show on the outside!
