Sorry not that controversial but posting for traffic. We are invested with clothes moths. They have eaten the plastic off my fake leather handbag from the back of my wardrobe. I've had a throw an unworn pair of cotton joggers as it was full of holes. A company has said it will fo it with a Cimetrol spray and a cold fogger which will get into all the nooks and crannies. They have said Cimetrol is safe once dry but I would like others opinions on this as I have young kids and I dont want to affect their brain development. I've googled Cimetrol but I cant really find anything on it? Are there any scientists on here who know a bit about it???? Many thanks.

Same problem , tried several ways to tackle heres what I did.

  1. Moths don't like cedar of Lebanon wood its what they used to make linen chests out of. So I phoned big timber merchant brought a big lump of cedar, got them to cut it into thin planks and deliver it to my door (total cost under £100, one ruined dress costs more than whole house treatment). The moths and larvae love dark places so the planks of ceder went under every sofa, bed and in every draw, wardrobe and chest in my place. I turned whole house into cedar linen chest.
  2. Moths had got into very expensive carpet so I used some left over Boron salt powder used to protect wood from woodworm etc. It works by stoping the insects from digesting their food so they starve to death. I thought that spraying the underside of the carpets would kill the carpet eating larvae of the moths. They eat carpet= they starve to death before damage done. Boron salt is harmless to humans (Ithink but do double check thisyourself.
  3. Grap any lavender flowers, leaces, prunning same for Bay leaves, moths don't like the strong aromours. I stuff into old baby socks and staple tops shut a throw them everywhere, cupboards loft, behind sofas, beds in drawers etc. I even scatter lavender flowers under carpets.
  4. Tried pheremone traps didn't seem to work, moth balls run out of smell in short perion, cedar balls OK but expensive compaered to bulk timber buying.
