To not wash my hair

lionobserving · 29/12/2023 23:26

I never usually have a haircut without colour, but tomorrow i do.

My hair needed washing about 3 days ago, and has been caught in the rain twice since. Today I scraped it into a "sleek" (mousse to cover the post-xmas laziness) ponytail, because I couldn't be bothered to wash it today when I'm going to the hairdressers tomrorow.

However, it's just dawned on me that I always have my hair washed pre-cut because it's normally coloured first. I'm not having it coloured tomorrow so I don't know if they will wash it first.

Either way, can I turn up without washing my hair, which is not only a few days late for washing, but has also been caught in two downpours and has lots of product in since the last wash. Have I got to get up early and wash it before the hairdressers in the morning?!

Usually wash my hair everyday but missed this morning because I was rushing around but now it feels manky and I wish I had taken the time. Would not leave my hair wash for three days.

Hairdressers l used to go to.. all gossiped about people going in with unwashed / dirty/ greasy hair.. so if you're planning on going back.. wash it.. you would be having your morning shower anyhow.. what's another 5 minutes washing your hair?. Most people just wash it every morning in the shower.. like you wash your body.. well my friends and family do. Why wouldn't you?

Because not every hairs type is the same. I have mixed raced hair and wash my hair once a week. If I washed it daily, I’d have no hair.

Erm yes.

Don't be dirty. No one wants to touch your greasy hair.

Don't be ridiculous!

christmaspawpaws · 31/12/2023 20:52

@Throwhandsupintheair but this is what always happens on these threads. People don't think and start saying washing hair less than daily is disgusting without thinking about what they're saying

Someone says "that's vile, you must stink"
Someone else points out hair types are different
They say "oh I didn't mean black hair though"

It's like when people say "everyone should shower, that's disgusting and sink washes aren't the same you will smell", someone points out disability, then they say "oh well I didn't mean disabled people"

Again, not everyone's hair is the same
No not everyone washes it daily
Mine doesn't take 5 mins to wash, and on top of that it's 45-60 mins drying time minimum
That's why I wouldn't wash it daily because I don't have 1.5-2hrs to spend on it

Copperoliverbear · 31/12/2023 21:05

Of course they will wash it before they cut it, but I don't see why you haven't

I personally don’t give a shit if a hairdressers gossiped about me not washing my hair. I usually wash my hair every 2-3 days and I don’t see the point going to my hairdresser with freshly washed hair unless I’m going out in person to work. My current hairdresser I asked her once what she preferred and she told me it’s just hair and she would wash and condition it anyway and my hair was clean when she saw it generally.

One ex hairdresser who owned her salon and was a “friend” I went to see her (always for highlights and a cut) and used baby powder as I didn’t have dry shampoo. She told me that that was a stylist on fashion shoots trick and was fine and she’d done it before herself!

OP, instead of reading this thread you could have spent 10 minutes washing the greasy hair. Just get on with it, no need for a debate.

Bit harsh

12menandtrue · 31/12/2023 21:59

Why does Mumsnet insist on deleting posts that are factual. A person is black or white or any colour in-between. Why is stating that colour when relevant considered to be offensive?

BorisIsACuntWaffle · 30/12/2023 17:48

I don't think op has that type of hair does she.

I don't think the OP has specified has she?

ChocolateTVandbaby · 31/12/2023 22:35

OP hasn't said she has Afro, coily or very curly hair or they there's a reason she couldn't wash it. She in fact said it was ready to wash three days ago. Regardless of your hair type, your scalp needs a wash, and yes I imagine it does smell. I can mall my own scalp after 3/4 days even though my very curly hair is not greasy.

I'm the same, it needs washing daily. I tried not washing it daily during lockdowns to see if I could eventually get to washing every 2 days and I never could. So so greasy.

Ergh! Sound grim. I'd be embarresed to go round with greasy hair so I'd wash it every day.

Exactly why I tried in lockdown, no way I'd go out without washing my hair

DelphiniumBlue · 02/01/2024 18:52

This thread is so weird!
I am in my 60s and have never been to a hairdressers where they didn't wash my hair. It's absolutely standard practice.

LenaLamont · 02/01/2024 18:57

Hairdressers always wash your hair before cutting it, so you'll be fine, OP.
