To be annoyed with this?

I had surgery in April. In August, I went for my post op and things weren't great, the consultant tried to check for some things but due to the pain he had to stop. Gave me some advice and some meds to buy over the counter (which I have been taking ever since) and I had a telephone appt scheduled for today. I'm off work so at home and watched my phone like a hawk. Made sure i set a reminder to have it near me before the scheduled time, took it off silent, etc(I have some issues with organisation and stuff ) . Appt time came and went. 20 mins letter I get a notification with a letter sent to my GP apparently they rang and since I didn't answer they're assuming everything is fine and I'm being discharged. The phone never rang! I have no missed calls.

Now, while I did have some questions I am mostly ok so technically not a big deal. But they have no idea that everything is fine. Plus it really bothers me that now I'm classed as not attending/not answering on my records when they never rang. Tbh, I think they didn't bother , and they were always going to discharge me given the timeframe between the so called me not answering and the electronic letter sent to my GP.

AIBU to be annoyed? Is it worth letting someone (who?!?) know that it wasn't me not answering, they never called? This was at 12 this morning and it's still bothering me.

I would contact them to say you didn't get the call.

Sounds like my drs surgery

Why were the meds not prescribed - does your gp have a record of them?

Can you email/phone the consultants secretary on Tuesday with your queries and tell them that you didn't receive a phone call?

I'd also phone the booking centre to advise the call was not received

You may however have to go via your gp if you've been discharged.

No, no record. Doc just wrote the name of them on a piece of paper and handed it to me and said to take two before bed every day. One of the questions was actually about long term usage . I've stopped them now anyway, and I'll just buy more if I flare up again. Not prescribed I guess as easily available over the counter and in his words cheap.

I'll see what contact information I can get off the electronic letter and try to get in touch with someone .

Just looked online and I wasn't supposed to take them for this long. Normal timings are a week. God, I'm daft. At least no harm done.

How did you get this notification ?
Was it an e-mail ? (as you say it was a letter)
I would have phoned up at that point and said that you had your phone right by you the whole time and have not received a call.

MadeOfAllWork · 29/12/2023 23:28

Exactly the same happened to DH. He was meant to have a phone appointment with the cardiologist and the phone didn’t ring. He just got a message saying that he’d missed his appointment.
Sometimes phones don’t connect properly or you aren’t in a position to answer right that moment. Surely though you then call the next person and go back to the one that doesn’t answer.

Loubelle70 · 29/12/2023 23:32

Ring up the department say no phone call. If they say you have to go back through gp, complain to PALS at hospital

Via NHS app. In messages I had a copy of the electronic letter sent to my GP. No contact information for the clinic/consultant. I'll try and dig out my previous paper letters see if there's any info there.

That’s unacceptable, I would definitely call them and ask what time they called as you were waiting for their call.

Our GP calls me at least 3 times. The reason they have to ring me 3 times is I have the same GP as my parent and get calls on their behalf that I was not aware had been booked in.

Is your phone set to automatically block withheld numbers? If it is, you wouldn't have got the notification of the call
