Need some perspective please !

I want a Lancache in my kitchen. Brand new costs £7k. I have found a seller on eBay who sells refurb and is selling one that is 10 years old for £3.5k. It is in excellent condition with 1 year warranty. The company has excellent reviews (over 1000).

My other half doesn’t want to buy refurbished as he doesn’t trust it. He wants to buy new but we could then have to get a different make range cooker :(

What does everyone think ? Who is being unreasonable?

thanks

What's so special about it? Does it make everything taste at least £3.5K better? If not it's just a pointless trend.

Personally I wouldn’t buy a 10 year old kitchen, with a one year warranty left.

if it was one year old with 10 years then I’d see your point, but that’s not really a good saving at all and think of all the wear and tear!

Lookingatthesunset · 29/12/2023 21:02

I'd want new.

100% agree with this.

Rainbowshit · 29/12/2023 21:04

Nope. I wouldn't be buying something that's 10 years old. Not a chance.

DollyDaydreamW · 29/12/2023 21:04

But buying secondhand means you miss out on the best bit with Lacanche, where you get to have it made to your exact specifications.... Buying something that is almost, but not quite, what you want ... Not as good. Will never quite measure up to the perfection that it could be.

Gosh what a problem to have

but from what you’ve said yabu

Had to google what this is. I’d do neither?!? To me seems a mad amount of money. But I’m probably with your husband on this and would buy new rather than a 10 year old one. If it was 2-3 years old and refurbished then maybe but definitely not 10 years.

I had one and it wasn’t that great. There were two electric ovens, one electric plate warmer and one gas oven. The gas one just burnt the bottom of everything we cooked and left the top raw, the smaller one of the electric ovens broke within a few years so we essentially only had one working oven but it cooked everything unevenly and that was a pain when baking as you’re not supposed to open and check. There isn’t a glass door either so there’s no other way of checking.

The stove top was great though, especially the big burner in the middle which was ideal for a wok or, if you kept the lid on, to bake flatbreads.

ours came with the house but I wanted to replace it for years but never did because they look good and are expensive.

bumbledeedum · 29/12/2023 21:46

I had to Google what this was too but don't see the benefit over a Rangemaster that you could have brand new for less than £3k?

That aside, you're mad to pay 50% of the price for something thats already 10 years old.

MixingMimosas · 29/12/2023 21:52

I've got one that I inherited with our house and really don't like it. All supposed style, no substance. Clanky old thing.

Digimoor · 29/12/2023 22:18

I like ours but I'm not sure I'd pay that much for a secondhand one

I bought a refurbished AGA, it was like new, honestly, every single thing was perfect. They put all new bits on a freshly painted old body, also new burner.
So I'd say, it depends what refurbished means?

Not sure if the one you are looking at is a range, but recently the cost of a gas AGA 😢
