In tears over unexplained weight loss

Over the last month, I've watched my weight drop significantly, with no change in diet, working a desk job and no increase in anxiety. I am booking a drs appointment tomorrow but am absolutely terrified there's something seriously wrong with me. On 20th November I weighed 180lbs exactly. Today I weigh 170.7lbs. I'm 32, 5ft9, and currently having what feels like a mild panic attack. I'm so anxious it's something awful.

That should say no increase in physical activity, but clearly feeling anxious today!

I would 100% book a GP appointment asap just in case, but there are "non serious" reasons this could happen so try not to panic until you know what you are actually dealing with.

I often gain/lose several pounds over a month due to hormone fluctuations as I retain water a lot more over certain sections of my cycle and lose it again a couple of weeks later.

How long have you been tracking your weight this closely? If it is something you very recently started doing then it might be that you are subconsciously eating less because you are thinking about the tracking, then once you noticed the loss the anxiety affected your appetite and this has had a snowball effect.

Do get it checked out but try not to think too much about it, worrying won't change the results and if everything is fine you've ruined that time over nothing.

Try not to worry. All kinds of things can cause weight loss:
Over-active thyroid
Type 2 diabetes
IBS
Coeliac disease
A small decrease in calories and more exercise - just walking!
Being awake and up longer with no calorie intake increase
Anything that increases your metabolism

They are almost all very easily treatable. Try nit to think of the worst things. I know it's hard.

With someone your height, it wouldn't take much- you will use more calories naturally than someone say 5Ft 2, so any slight variation in exercise, intake will have more effect.

Also, fluid retention can cause real fluctuations in apparent weight gain/loss.

Try not to worry, you are absolutely doing the right thing contacting the GP! Hopefully a simple explanation can be found.

I started tracking it when my trousers started feeling loose. So likely I've lost more than the 10lbs I've tracked.

I've just got back from the docs. She's not worried about anything like cancer so not even testing for it but she looked back at my bloods from 18 months ago for something completely different and was surprised to find that I was 1 point away from pre-diabetes and that my previous doctor hadn't flagged this up (told me my results were all within a healthy range). So, that might be it...

Overactive thyroid for me.
Regular blood tests and medication has sorted it. And yes, a few points off a pre-diabetes diagnosis.

Just to say hope you are doing OK, OP. You were so worried. Have things settled down now?
