Which curtains should I order?

Kirkeee · 27/12/2023 18:42

My window is 300cm wide. Getting loads of answers from the internet saying 1.5/2 x length. My mum says just get the same width to same money.

Any advice would be appreciated

Which curtains should I order?

It depends what drop length you want? To the floor, midway between floor and sill or bottom of sill?

Iouis · 27/12/2023 18:48

Aren't they all too small? All width 140?

Devilsmommy · 27/12/2023 18:49

Only just realised you can't get these as 2 would only be 280cm so you need bigger

Sunnydays0101 · 27/12/2023 18:49

I’m confused by your question -are you asking what length curtains - if so, floor length always look better.

Lastminutebride · 27/12/2023 18:50

The width of those doesn’t look big enough. I’d be going for about 200cm I think

Sunnydays0101 · 27/12/2023 18:54

For the width, measure the length of your curtain pole or track which should extend around 15cm each side of the window. So you’d be looking for 330cm width.

Why would you not buy a pair rather than 2 singles?

dontcallmelen · 27/12/2023 19:04

Curtains always look nicer if you have a good amount of fabric standard is usually 1.5 times the width of window, otherwise they look a bit skimpy especially if they have a pencil pleat type heading.

Kirkeee · 27/12/2023 19:14

I was thinking of buying more than 1 set to cover width of window

Ok now I’m confused. When it says W140cm - does that mean a pair together comes to 140cm (what I assumed) or one panel each is 140cm

Are these ready-made curtains - they usually come in a pair and the width listed would be the total width - I.e the width of your track or pole. (Which is usually the window length plus 15cm or 20cm each side - so your width would probably be 330cm or 340cm. The listing/specification/detail should give full details of whether it’s a single or pair. You can buy single curtains but majority of ready madel are sold as a pair.

Those curtains are all too small 0p; if you go 1.5 it will look a bit sparse but fine, x 2 is better. Your mother is wrong, as you need to pleat /gather, and if you have them the same width as window it will be like two tea towels hanging straight down and look shite. The additional length is to allow the pleat /gather

Gardeningtime · 27/12/2023 19:31

Also can you link the actual curtains?

Mumaway · 27/12/2023 19:34

Because you pull in the threads to create gather, buy the width that you need (ie 300,), which will give you 2 curtains of 300 that you then draw in. Length wise, it depends on radiator and furniture position(ie if it's under the window as to whether you want curtains to end above or floor length.

pretty sure it means one panel is 140 when laid flat, so would be nice and scrunched up on a 140 window (because it would be x2).

as a minimum you need 2 x 225 panel.

or if you want to buy multiples of the 140 then 3 or 4 panels would be fine.

WhatNoUsername · 28/12/2023 21:07

Yes you need to double the width.

SnowsFalling · 28/12/2023 21:20

Eyelet type curtains, you want a pair, each at least 2m wide.
If you are going for pencil pleat, you need a pair each about 3m wide.

If you buy the curtains you are suggesting, they wont meet in the middle when you try and close them.
