To expect homework to take more than 3 minues?

NOw I know many would rather see no homework at all and this isn't really about that.

If they are going to bring homework home surely it should be worthwhile sending. DTD2 did her numeracy homework in less than 3minutes this week. Her literacy only took about 5 minutes and was 1 min thinking. It only took 5 minutes as that was how long it took to copy out the predefined sentences.

It probably took the teacher, etc as long as all the children combined, who actually do the homework, to prepare and copy the homework to send out. Put a little note at the bottom asking how long it was meant to take? Perhaps it was easier than intended? On the other hand a lot of parents complain at hard homework. Dreading my little one being at school and having these issues at work and home!!

How old is your child. My son often gets homework that he does in under 5 minutes flat. I don't care because he is SIX YEARS OLD. If I want him to do more academically I am perfectly capable of finding him stuff to do.

To be fair I think that there will have been others in the class for whom it wil have taken a good 10mins (which I think is generally the target). It was a series questions involving quarters. I assume the whole class (and yeargroup) brings the same homework.

AFAIK they are set different levels of worksheet in class - would it be impossible to grade the level of homeowrk so that it actually gives them a little to think about.

They are 6.

My point it was a waste of her time finding a pencil to do it with.

If you want your six year old child to do more, why don't you buy a book from WH Smiths or download something from the internet.

As far as I am concerned homework shows what my son has been doing in class.

My son has done no reading or home work this week. He has a temperature of 102F so is tucked up in bed with a spoonful of calpol.
