Not to share my medication

So I have been really ill with tonsillitis and now my partner has caught it. I am a quarter of the way through my antibiotics and he hasn’t been able to get out to get any so wants to have some of mine and replace the rest of the course when he can get to a Dr/Pharmacist. I said no as I need to finish the course to get rid of this and I don’t know if he will be prescribed the same antibiotic. I also need to finish mine to get over this quickly as I’m the main carer for our lb. He’s really annoyed that I won’t give him any-Aibu?

If he has been prescribed them and they're exactly the same as yours and he just has to collect them then yabu.

ASeriesOfTubes · 26/12/2023 23:04

Thérèse Coffey wants a word with you.

I’d share. Not sure why it’s highly likely he will be prescribed a different type, chances are it will be same. Tonsillitis is horrible and I wouldn’t see my husband suffering. If it comes to it you could tell GP you threw 2 out in error and they will prescribe more

Yes he called 111 early morning and was prescribed them to collect later that morning…then fell asleep until 4.30

OP can you clarify whether your partner has been prescribed the same antibiotics that you are taking or a different one?

If he has been officially prescribed the same antibiotic that you currently have 3/4 of a course of in the house then YABU to not share them with him tonight, unless it's something like a 5 day course whereby there isn't enough tablets for you to "double dose" without running out before the pharmacy reopens.

Should he have gone and got his prescription today? Of course, but if he was so ill that he then slept from "early morning", when he managed to speak to 111 and get a prescription issued, all the way until 4:30pm and missed the pharmacy opening hours then that suggests that he is actually quite ill (not to say you are not also still ill but at 1/4 through an antibiotic course you're clearly further along the recovery path than he is, so whilst still unwell you are actively in the "getting better" stage) and therefore if there is the medication he has been prescribed in the house then why would you not share it with him for today?

TomatoSandwiches · 26/12/2023 23:25

YANBU he should have gone to get his prescription.

Mostlyoblivious · 26/12/2023 23:30

If they’re the same ones then yes I’d share knowing they’re at the pharmacy to collect - I’d also be giving him a kick to pull his weight when you’re both unwell

AnotherDayAnotherDoller · 26/12/2023 23:32

If he has been prescribed the same as you - I'd share.
His prescription can be picked up tomorrow and shouldn't therefore impact you finishing your course.

Bit annoying that he didn't collect his own prescription today and start it ASAP though.

Hope you both feel better.

AdoraBell · 26/12/2023 23:33

Don’t share your prescription medication. Ge can contact the GP.

PuffyShirt · 26/12/2023 23:38

He’s been prescribed them but not yet collected them?

Don’t see why you wouldn’t give him some of yours if you have enough. He can replace them, as you say so you can finish your course without a break.

YesThatsATurdOnTheRug · 26/12/2023 23:42

Your OP totally contradicts your later messages, he hadn't been to the dr or been prescribed and now he has? Based on the OP facts, I would share mine if it was going to be the same type and dose because it makes sense to get on top of it asap, but in the later version I'd be very annoyed he hadn't collected his. There might be a 24 hr pharmacy open somewhere though.

CheshireCat1 · 26/12/2023 23:44

It’s illegal to share prescription medications.

Renamed · 27/12/2023 00:00

Don’t you just know that even if he has got the same thing he will take one or two of your pills, feel a bit better, and then not bother sorting out his own, so you BOTH end up with an incomplete course…

[Heaves sigh] been reading posts here for too many years…

Crabby12345 · 27/12/2023 07:45

i don’t know what brand he has been prescribed-he was told to collect them from the chemist. Surely you only know what brand you get when you collect?! Well at least I did when I had to collect mine.

OP posts:
Greenvelvetdress · 27/12/2023 10:10

@Crabby12345 the brand doesn't really matter... It tells you what antibiotic it is on the prescription.

melj1213 · 27/12/2023 10:18

Brand is irrelevant, it's the drug that is important.

When he was prescribed the antibiotic did they not tell him what it was? Whenever I've had a 111 call they've always said something like "OK I'm going to prescribe you a 10 day course of flucloxacillin, I'll have it sent to X pharmacy."

If they didn't tell him exactly what he was prescribed then either he or you could call the pharmacy to ask them "Has X's prescription arrived from 111? ... Can you confirm which antibiotic they have prescribed, please?". I work in a supermarket pharmacy and I'd say 50% of the phone calls we get on a daily basis (and 90% of the calls we received yesterday) are people asking us to check we have received a specific prescription, asking us to confirm what was prescribed and asking whether we have the stock/how long it will take before it's ready for collection.

Stompythedinosaur · 27/12/2023 10:56

What a baby! He won't die before tomorrow, when he can get his own meds.
