To do Christmas in a hotel most years?

Couldn’t be bothered with family politics and all the bs this year so spent the day and night with good friends and their kids in a hotel.

Our kids still had Santa in the morning before we drove.

Enjoyed a lovely traditional dinner without all the hassle of planning, cooking and cleaning up.

Good banter enjoyed over some drinks. Kids got a Christmas movie and plenty of treats as well as taking some of their presents with them.

Off to bed with no stress or the hassle of tidying or worrying about MIL getting pissed and causing trouble hosting.

Woke up to enjoy a Boxing Day walk followed by a full cooked breakfast and back home for a chilled Boxing Day.

May be tempted to do this every year.

That sounds SO nice - very relaxing and a great way to spend Xmas with no hassle

Think I'll come with you next year!

I couldn't think of anything worse but each to their own, obviously.

What makes you think you might be unreasonable?

That sounds lovely and very relaxing.
On my bucket list is a Christmas stay at Ladore Falls.

The only thing I would change is checking in on Christmas Eve - Santa still delivers to hotels! 😄

Sounds relaxing and thoroughly enjoyable I might do the same next year no cooking or cleaning!!

Generally I enjoy hosting and not all family members are problematic.

Plus the kids may want to spend the whole day at home with their new toys. They are also too young to understand any family politics and so not sure if it’s totally fair on them.

Ahh ok. That's not something MN can answer as it would need a family discussion.

God that sounds like absolute heaven and I'm not gonna lie-jealous as fuck.
I try to float this idea each year but it's yet to work, I'll keep trying though.

If you can make it work, go for it. Was such a chilled, blissful and fun Christmas.

It’s great isn’t it! I used to do that for a few years before kid. Stayed at a nice hotel in Mayfair, instead of cooking etc spent time swimming and in the spa, followed by fabulous dinner I didn’t have to cook. On Boxing Day was a walking distance to the stores and grab some bargains. On 27th would go back home to a nice clean house.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 26/12/2023 19:16

I would hate it because it wouldn't feel like Christmas - it would feel like running away from home to avoid Christmas. But if you all enjoy it, it seems like the way forward and why not do it for as long as everyone is on board?

Sounds incredible

That sounds amazing. Can you recommend the hotel you used please? What area are you in?

Fofftwenty21 · 26/12/2023 20:22

@PeloMom do you have the name of the Mayfair Hotel?
