About this secret Santa?

Did secret Santa with DH family. Not our idea but another relative. Agreed limit was £30 which I personally think is a lot anyway for extended family (we see them maybe once or twice a year, one of which is Christmas). Nobody has kids but we’re hoping to soon, so it was just adults to buy for.

Me and DH spent about £20/30 on one meaningful prezzie for the recipient that we individually got. Everyone else had totally disregarded the limit and either spent way over the amount - I’m talking £60 or £70+…. Or decided to also buy for people they hadn’t got Secret Santa for. This just defeats the point doesn’t it?

We were left feeling shown up especially since one of our recipients didn’t really hide the shock on her face that she had a present in lesser value than ours.

AIBU to say I’m not taking part next year? If you’re going to do Secret Santa it needs to be token I think and it’s really not about the value of items or presents for adults. None of them seem to understand this.

I don’t mean to be unkind but when you also have to buy for others it gets expensive very quickly…!

Well they’re all ridiculous not to understand the very basic concept of secret Santa! Yeah I wouldn’t get involved again.
