To think The Family Stone is a terrible film

Thus used to be my all time favourite Christmas film. Just sat down to watch and enjoy on Christmas afternoon and it's really horrible. The Diane Keaton character is an awful bitchy one who laughs at nothing all the time and Amy behaves appalingly. I'm so disappointed

They are awful to Meredith but I do like this film.. watched Christmas with the kranks a few days ago with Jamie Lee Curtis, now that is a truly awful film.

I think it's a really good film. You see the worst and best in all the characters and it takes you on an emotional journey which in the end feels redemptive. People are shit and awful to each other but sometimes they are good, too. And some people bring the best out in some others. I really like it.

Exactly!

Not quite.

The convo began about gay adoption. Meredith then talked about the nature or nurture argument about sexual orientation which began a light-hearted talk about it. Meredith then questions, in front a loving close knit family who are clearly very accepting of their gay child/sibling who is sitting at the table with them, why a parent would want a gay child when it's difficult to be gay. "Any parent would want a normal child" she says.

She brought a compeltely fine discussion uo about a nature vs nurture without casting judgement or an opinion herself. She just wanted to know theirs.

Then Diane Keaton said she hoped all her sons were gay. Meredith then said - albeit in a VERY mealy mouthed way - that she is surprised because the world is hard enough without having to deal with homophobia on top of other things. The whole ‘normal’ comment clearly came from someone who is shit with words and very nervous already being gawped and gasped at like she’d just flung the family cat onto the table and skinned it alive.

I see where she came from. I would never give a second thought to the sexual orientation of my kids but I’d worry deeply about them experiencing homophobia, and it’s the only reason I perhaps would take a deep sigh if they were in fact gay. I’d think “Oh god you are gonna have to deal with so much shit in your life”

@crochetmonkey74 - give it a try! there's something redeeming about the relationship between the older parents. Less love, more lost themselves in parenting and can't remember why they are together anymore.

None of these are Oscar worthy but there's something about them that's endearing.

I also really like The Family Man with Nicholas Cage.
