Christmas Present

I need to give my head a wobble. Have family around for Xmas, all in good health and had some lovely little gifts, but… the one thing I asked for and showed the link to in November hasn’t materialised and is now OOS and discontinued.
DH and DS ordered from a different website weeks later and the item (a snoopy watch I wanted as a child) is showing as waiting for stock.
They always complain I buy my own gifts, and this is why!
Feel ridiculously disappointed and like a spoilt 5 year old.

Never understood adults asking for certain presents and then getting “upset” when they don’t get them. You should have bought it yourself if it was that important

BluebellsForest · 25/12/2023 10:26

That's crap, OP. Sorry

FeltCarrot · 25/12/2023 10:42

@Joolea I normally do but then they get cross at me for having no surprises! It’s ok though, I have only vented on here. Happy with other treats!

How old is DS? It does sound feeble of them, sorry OP! Next year just go back to getting your own and remind them why if they moan again.

thinslicedham · 25/12/2023 10:47

Not unreasonable to be disappointed. Next time just don't leave the 'limited' items to chance. Let them buy you things that won't be sold out and unavailable. If they still complain, gently remind them of this.

DS is 23!
I think I just wanted to relive my childhood a bit! Glass or two of fizz and I’ll get over it!

Huh? Why is it hard to understand that a grown adult might like something that’s a bit of a treat and not something they’d buy for themselves? I’m always very clear about what I’d like - why would you want loved ones to guess and get it wrong? Similarly, dh gives me ideas. He has a very niche hobby I’d need lots of knowledge in to get it right! Adults can enjoy nice things.

So she's got to micromanage her own gift? All the while being gentle about it?

Ktime · 25/12/2023 12:47

If your DH and grown ass DS can’t but you a gift after you have sent them the link then it’s time to stop getting them Christmas presents.

They’re moaning about you not having surprises to save face because they don’t give a shit.

Let this be the last year you buy for the fuckers.

Why should she be gentle with them?

Whilst they're enjoying the gifts they wanted.

So much Stepford wifing.

YANBU
its not just the watch is it. It’s the fact you, presumably, sort their gifts and get them what they want and usual sort you own gifts. They’ve moaned about this and you’ve trusted them to sort your gift and they’ve not done it. Have they done other parts of xmas prep op or do you do the bulk?

I think the wider context here is important. One bad gift isn’t the end of the world, a pattern of one person putting in lots of effort and others putting is none is an issue.

Anneta · 25/12/2023 12:57

Try putting a saved search on eBay. I expect one will turn up for sale eventually.

Ifulikepinacoladas · 25/12/2023 12:57

I think I know the watch you wanted! (Or at least the range)
I also asked for a watch a few months ago and sent pictures and let DH know when it was on offer...then left it. I did get it today. DH has gone 'off piste' before getting me something similar but not quite what I wanted. This time I was very specific and said it was the only thing I wanted as it was fairly expensive as a single item.
The surprise bit only benefits the giver, when it is not what has been asked for. Sorry you have been disappointed OP.

Anneta · 25/12/2023 13:01

Just looked on EBay OP . There are 160 snoopy watches for sale on there. Good luck. X
