Err..might get destroyed for saying this but here goes..

Some mothers, in a effort to make Christmas perfect for their family, end up putting themselves under too much pressure and cause a little bit of tension in the house.

Of course they do.. people can cause tension when under pressure, what's your point? It won't be intentional and I'm sure they already know and feel guilty about it

Yup! Too right. It takes a few practice goes to figure out what is important and what is not. It's even harder when you're obligated to go to people, or host people. It's a hell of a lot easier with a few thousand miles between you. . .

@Qwerty556 are you my dh?

I feel like it's a self defeating circle of events. people want to make christmas special, which puts them under pressure, which frays peoples tempers which affects people's experience.

I've not got my own children or partner but I've been involved a lot in christmas this year for my other family members and its been stressful. I feel if we took it easier in some ways the day would be better. I think many feel the same but then the time comes and the urge to do the best you can takes over.

@Qwerty556 Yes you are right. And maybe that tension could be alleviated by everyone else meeting them halfway by being kinder to each other, anticipating and helping a little. You know, by not just being a judgy passenger. See? You even get your Christmas wish of being 'destroyed' for piping up. Happy Christmas!
