I'm furious what was supposed to be a relaxed trip into central London now means a stressful drive. Our we mad to think of driving in?

Your train doesn’t go through anywhere on the tube does it, like Ealing? I presume you’ve thought of that.

Greenparrott · 22/12/2023 23:09

Do you have to drive all the way in? Could you park and tube the rest of the way?

ThinWomansBrain · 22/12/2023 23:10

I live in Central London, so used to driving here.
WHy not drive to just outside and get the tube in - you'll save the tube fares in cheaper parking and congestion charge. I suppose it depends on why you're travelling here, less useful if you're doing lots of shopping.

EmmaEmerald · 22/12/2023 23:11

Where from and what time? Driving in on Christmas Eve will be much better than a normal drive surely - the central London bit anyway. Trunk routes going in, not sure.

driving around London at Christmas is lovely. I say this as a Christmas hater. If I still drove, I’d drive around late on Christmas Eve and during Christmas Day just as it’s nice!

Needmorelego · 22/12/2023 23:11

Do you mean the train station? Where are you coming from? Essentially there's 4 parts to Paddington station - there's the main station plus Elizabeth Line and 2 tube stations (several lines) so you might be able to do an alternative journey in.

BeadedBubbles · 22/12/2023 23:28

Who are you furious with?
And how can we possibly comment unless you give more info? Confused

practicepracticepractice · 22/12/2023 23:41

Rather than be furious, can we solve it?

What time of day?
Where are you coming in from?
What is your final destination in London?

AlwaysForksAndMarbles · 22/12/2023 23:45

Drive to Reading and get the Elizabeth Line in, or to Osterley and get on the Piccadilly Line tube there.

ChristmasEvemaddness · 22/12/2023 23:53

It's the Liz line I was hoping to get but Paddington is closed.
Usually the trip would take 50 mins or so with no changes.

How it's nearly 2 hours with lots of changes so I think we would rather drive in. Also I'm nervous about being stuck with few trains because that's happens before.

We would need to get close to theatre land if we drive in.

You’ll be able to park on a single yellow for free round by Jermyn Street and St James square. Kings St is usually good.
If ur going to The Palladium, you should be able to park on Gt Marlborough St. Need to be early for that one though. Before 12pm.

Whataretheodds · 23/12/2023 00:00

But where are you trying to get from? If you're going to the west end you can get off at Bond St rather than Paddington and walk or change to central

ChristmasEvemaddness · 23/12/2023 00:02

@Whataretheodds it's seems Paddington is closed so trains arnt going through it.

@TheRussiansAreComing thank you.

We need to be on shaftsbury avenue for 3pm.

I'd have to go Ealing broadcasting then Farringdon.

ChristmasEvemaddness · 23/12/2023 00:04

I'd have to go Ealing broadcasting then Farringdon.

Why Farringdon if you're headed for Shaftesbury Avenue? Are you going to Farringdon for something first?

we can help, with the right info.

LittleBearPad · 23/12/2023 00:13

Where are you coming from? Parking on the outskirts and getting the tube will be much easier.

Farringdon makes no sense for Shaftesbury Avenue?

Willywanker1 · 23/12/2023 00:13

ChristmasEvemaddness · 23/12/2023 00:04

I'd have to go Ealing broadcasting then Farringdon.

You could get the central line to Tottenham court road. Why are you going to farringdon?

You basically need to make one change, and it takes an extra 13 minutes onto your journey.

What am I missing?

wohmum · 23/12/2023 00:14

Depending whereabouts on Shaftesbury avenue , you could walk from Tottenham Court Road .
Farringdon seems a long way off Shaftesbury ave - you could park
at Hillingdon and get the Met line to Farringdon - and met line is far more pleasant than Central!

PercyPigsInBlankets · 23/12/2023 00:19

Why does this have to be some sort of ridiculous riddle?

Tell us where you’re starting from, where you need to be, and we’ll tell you how best to get there.

VerticalSausages · 23/12/2023 00:23

It’s almost like you are making this harder than it needs to be…

mrsjoyfulprizeforraffiawork · 23/12/2023 00:23

As pps have said Ealing Broadway get Central line to Tottenham Court Rd (26 mins if you were travelling right now). 5 mins walk down Charing Cross Rd to Cambridge Circus and you will be on Shaftesbury Avenue.

Spinet · 23/12/2023 00:28

Driving in will be all right on Xmas eve. Just decide where you're parking beforehand and if you can avoid marble arch I would (bit you probs can't if you were coming in to Paddington). Just park or one of those other parking apps will be great on Xmas eve - I bet there are loads of empty spaces.

ChristmasEvemaddness · 23/12/2023 00:32

@Willywanker1

I don't want to be diverted to Farringdon that's where natinal rail is diverting me too because of the various closures.

OP posts:
ChristmasEvemaddness · 23/12/2023 00:33

@VerticalSausages a riddle... Ummm.

That is how I feel trying to navigate the closures and route planners open to me.

OP posts:
EmmaEmerald · 23/12/2023 00:34

If I take Farringdon as an error

the Central Line is suffering from faulty train motors, they sent out an apology today apparently.

I'd go this route

Ealing Broadway to Acton Town on District Line

then Piccadilly Line to Leicester Square.

ChristmasEvemaddness · 23/12/2023 00:35

It's telling to to charge at Ealing Broadway, for Farringdon to come to Tottenham court road or bond street
