Have people gone off Christmas cake and Christmas pud?

Both are delicious.

More for me I guess.

I'm the opposite OP, I've started to like them more over the years. I especially love dark, rich Christmas puddings with brandy butter and/or cream 😋 M and S do a lovely one.

As for marzipan, I clearly have the taste buds of a heathen as I could happily eat it by the block 😳

Marzipan is absolutely GORGEOUS

porridgeisbae · 22/12/2023 11:05

@ManateeFair Ooh could I have the recipe please? I would have a lot of glace cherries. Smile Might have a go next year.

Christmas Cake is my number one favourite thing to eat at Christmas.

Really special.

Not like chocolate which I can eat any old time.

Got mine from a baker's this year.
Plus I've bought the cutest decorations to put on top.
Can't wait to try it!

porridgeisbae · 22/12/2023 11:30

I don't especially like marzipan but I would eat a block of it if it was lying around. Grin

I'd love to see pics of people's decorated cakes/puds. Please post here when you can.

I've bought a little Xmas pudding and a cake for me. Nobody else eats it so sticky toffee pudding for them. No way am I missing out on my pud!

Iloveanicegarden · 22/12/2023 11:37

Our 'go to' dessert is a fresh fruit salad with passion fruit and a generous glug of passion fruit liqueur. Manna and so refreshing.

FofB · 21/12/2023 22:45

OP, have you tried Christmas Cake with a slice of cheese? It's surprisingly delicious......

Of course. Round here, it is illegal to serve Christmas cake without a side of Wensleydale.

I like Christmas cake and mince pies, but not Christmas pudding strangely.

Weirdly, I've really gone off chocolate, but will get loads for Christmas. Which I will eat if it's lying around.

BarbaraofSeville · 22/12/2023 11:38

But the pudding I'm looking forward to most is Morrisons mango pannacotta. It's my new favourite thing.

Grumpsy · 22/12/2023 11:39

Never liked either 🤢you can take the mince pies too, also disgusting 🤷🏻‍♀️

Faircastle · 22/12/2023 11:40

Dried fruit is abhorrent.
It's the work of the devil.

Love Christmas pud with pouring cream

Ooh maybe I should try that. Only ever had it with custard.

My family in Australia have a traditional recipe for Christmas pudding that is now at least 8 generations old.

It is always served with brandy sauce.

(My family in the UK have sticky toffee pudding, because Christmas pudding isn’t popular, so why have something you don’t like?)

Eew, blancmange? I mean I'd probably eat it but I wouldn't go wild for it.

Jingleballtheway · 22/12/2023 11:48

Never liked christmas cake or pud. Nor mince pies. Or mulled wine. Or christmas scented candles.

Jingleballtheway · 22/12/2023 11:48

But it's a resounding yes to pannacotta, creme brulee and trifle from me. Yum.

lesdeluges · 22/12/2023 11:52

My late Dad had Mums pudding between two slices of soft white bread and butter.

A bread and butter pudding sandwich!

Now that they're both gone, Christmas pudding is no more, the rest of us never liked it, or Christmas cake either.

LittleGreenDragons · 22/12/2023 12:03

I've not eaten a Christmas pudding since I stopped going to my mum's for Christmas. She used to make the most delicious brandy butter to go with it (we also had custard and pouring cream). She's no longer with us but now I'm wondering where her recipe went (it was actually her mother's recipe).

Mince pies have to be the Asda ones with the iced topping instead of pastry. Yum!

I used to make my own Christmas cake which the whole family enjoyed eating but then MIL started gifting hers so I stopped. Might make that one of my new year resolutions and make my own again.

porridgeisbae · 22/12/2023 12:09

@Jingleballtheway I do like trifle in general. And tiramisu. Smile Most sweet stuff really. And a lot of savoury stuff. Grin

maddiemookins16mum · 22/12/2023 12:19

I love Christmas cake, here is mine. But Christmas pudding I can take or leave. We’re having MIL’s mincemeat/frangipane tart instead, it’s fabulous.

Why oh why

RampantIvy · 21/12/2023 22:58

I like Christmas pudding, but DD doesn't, so I just buy a small one. This year I bought a Dundee cake as neither of us are fond of icing and DH hates marzipan. We aren't that fond of fruit cake so I bought a cake rather than made one as I can't make one small enough.

We get our Dundee cake out on NYE and the shortbread.

porridgeisbae · 22/12/2023 12:26

@maddiemookins16mum Looks awesome, thanks. Smile

Isn't shortbread well boring? I think it's quite bland. Do you dunk it in something?

OP posts:
ShortColdandGrey · 22/12/2023 12:30

I have always hated Christmas cake, but I don't really like any cake. Have never had Christmas Pudding as we have Clootie Dumpling and custard at Christmas.

porridgeisbae · 22/12/2023 12:38

@ShortColdandGrey I'd love not to like any cake. I'd probably be thinner.

I've never liked them or mince pies. I don't like dried fruit any time of the year

Nor me. Quite like the flavour and spices etc but the texture of dried fruit, specifically currants, raisins etc I just can't bear.

AhBiscuits · 22/12/2023 12:40

Also not a fan of dried fruit.
