Anyone else?! It’s been such a busy month and I can feel myself coming down with the lurgy just in time for Christmas… help, any tips on how to stop it?! (I know realistically I can’t stop it but I don’t want a miserable bug / cold over Christmas!!)

Last night was horrible! I was up 2-4.30am as I was too blocked to sleep. Feeling less sick today but now my DD (20 months) is coughing the way I did in the beginning. So that's next week her being sick then I suppose. Did anybody have covid with cold symptoms but no fever?

JWhipple · 23/12/2023 14:05

Definitely Vicks first defence. And splash out on twinings defence tea. (Or any tea with echinacea in) Bit pricey but seemed to help

I've just tested positive for COVID, had two crap days with it but after a massive sleep feel better

mondaytosunday · 23/12/2023 18:05

My sister has just come home from a 48 hour shift (she's a psychiatrist at a residential hospital) with... covid! We are visiting first time in four years and she has to isolate - my daughter has MS and is immunocompromised, as is my niece, plus none of us want it! Poor woman.

SnowyMcSnowball · 23/12/2023 19:42

Same 😭😭😭

twiddlingthumbs69 · 23/12/2023 19:48

Yep same here. Started on Wednesday. Felt absolutely wretched. Seemed to peak at lunchtime today and now feeling better. Everyone's saying it's a four day thing. Just bloody awful timing. My 60th birthday on boxing day, just had to cancel everything

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 23/12/2023 19:56

I’ve got fecking Covid.

Havent heard of first defence before but just ordered some for next time it’s needed

mynameiscalypso · 23/12/2023 20:57

I have a fucking kidney infection. On the super strength antibiotics and feeling grim.

Cocolapew · 23/12/2023 21:00

I had a head cold last week, started to feel better then terrible yesterday, turns out its covid 😷

marychristmas22 · 23/12/2023 21:20

Last night was dreadful. I kept waking up hot then shivery then hot then shivery. Very achey joints. Felt absolutely rotten.

Dh got up at 6 with the toddler and let me sleep in until 8:30 by which time I felt slightly better but had a chronic headache. After some painkillers and coffee I managed to crack on and get the jobs done I needed to but I've been having horrific coughing fits all day, to the point where I'm almost sick through retching so bad.

Currently laid in front of the fire and feel knackered and achey but slightly better. I just want to feel well for Christmas. We have so much lovely food and wine that I can't even contemplate enjoying at the moment. It's such a shame.

Also praying the dc don't get it although it was probably one of them that gave it to me.

hashebeenyet · 23/12/2023 21:36

I started coughing yesterday and today feel full of cold. I did a Covid test as I'll be with elderly mum and MIL on Christmas Day, it was negative. Still not sure seeing them with a cold is a good idea, especially MIL. Will see how I feel tomorrow. In a way I'd be relieved, as I'd be doing all the cooking with DP, but know that DM will be devastated.

Hbh17 · 23/12/2023 21:42

It's just a cold - perfect excuse to stay in and relax. Actually, Christmas is a good time, because most people are off work so you don't have to go into the office or whatever feeling a bit ropey.

Cloud44 · 24/12/2023 14:58

How’s everyone feeling today?

twiddlingthumbs69 · 24/12/2023 15:08

A bit better actually. Day 4 here. I've got more energy but still have awful cough and ear ache. DH has come down with it now though. So Xmas is a write off.

drowningintinsel · 24/12/2023 15:14

I've come down with a cold. I feel awful. Went out for a walk earlier and felt a bit better. No appetite though.

Olika · 24/12/2023 16:00

I feel worse than yesterday, my DD is more sick and now my dad has got this thing from us. Soon my mum and sister will get it I suppose.

Changedname23 · 24/12/2023 17:13

Feel awful. Banging headache and shivery and achey. Did a Covid test and it's negative

Scarlettpixie · 24/12/2023 17:53

How are you feeling OP? I feel shocking today. Cough, foggy head, headacre, aches. I started with a cold on Tuesday and its beem getting progressively worse. I keep doing a few bits and having to sit down, it is a shame as I have mainly had cooking to do today which I isually enjoy but it has felt such a chore. Luckily I am not hosting or visiting elderly relative’s tomorrow. Hoping to feel a bit better in the morning,

Testing negative for covid.

mondaytosunday · 24/12/2023 23:23

My sister has just tested positive for covid. Shame as we are visiting from abroad and she worked the first few days we were here and now her only time off she's in isolation (two children here are immunocompromised).
She's a doctor and is resting, having chicken soup and cold and flu meds.

hashebeenyet · 26/12/2023 00:05

How's today been for everyone? I felt a bit better this morning and collected my mum and drove to MIL, cooked dinner with DO. At about 6 pm I started shivering again and felt just awful. Managed to drive home. Hoping I'll sleep better and might feel better tomorrow. Very fed up, could barely eat today.
