To go into the office with a cough?

I'm conscious that people are trying not to catch any germs at this time of year but unfortunately I have some, and I'm in the office.

Had a cold over the weekend, took the Monday off, came back in yesterday and have developed this annoying tickly cough. Yesterday, my cough was pretty bad - I sat in my office with the door closed all day. Today I've got my door propped open but also window open behind me and my cough isn't nearly as bad as it was. Any major coughing fits I do need to have, I go to the bathroom.

The guy two offices down from me is clearly getting pissed off. He makes a comment every time he passes my door on the way to the kitchen and latest trip he asked if I've done a Covid test (I have). He doesn't work here - he's a paid consultant.

AIBU to think well tough, this is my job and I'm feeling well enough to do it so I'm here. If he's not happy, he can shut his own door or move upstairs to another office. Or am I being really irresponsible?

There are tons of germs around at the moment. I have had a cough for 10 weeks and counting! Wtf would I be supposed to do with that? I hardly think work would be ok if I took that time off!!

I have a cough (no fever) and of course I'm going to work, busiest time of year and nobody else to do my job! The world doesn't stop for minor illness. I do have a private office at least

Literally everyone in my office has a cough. None of us are ill, we're just coughing. I can work from home, but the admin staff can't. So we all sit and cough at each other. It's ridiculous.

If someone was hacking away all day, I'd also rather they worked from home/took sick leave until it eased off to avoid spreading it and having to listen to the constant coughing while trying to work.

That can be weeks though!

I had to do just that op. No more sick days left (only get 5 per year and used them all with chest infection on 2 separate occasions since September so I had to go in or I would lose a days pay each day I was out, plus have to pay €70 to see a doctor. No way. Cant afford it.

Hopefully you’ll get a Christmas miracle and be cough free!!

There's a difference between still being infectious, which the OP likely is, and having a lingering weeks-long cough. With the latter, no one would complain about you working as you are unlikely to spread it. With the former, you're likely to ruin someone's Christmas because you preferred to be in
