To feel like crying at Christmas music

Every bloody year I can’t bear to hear it. It makes me want to cry.

i get ridiculously emotional: it’s like this horrible sadness and nostalgia for my childhood and the past… and a reminder of how quickly time marches on.

then I remember lots of sad things (not happened to me… but think of people being lonely at Christmas or missing a loved one)

Please tell me I’m not alone on this.

i tell my family and friends I hate the music as it’s just bloody cringe and annoying

ps I’m not the Sistine Chapel woman

Im not very sentimental but the church scene (the choir) in Home Alone has me weeping every time I watch it. 😭

Ugh yes. My husband plays piano Christmas music on YouTube to get our baby to sleep at this time of year. I have to leave the room every time because it fills me with so much sadness! It's so strange! Something that should be lovely is so sad!

For some people it’s very real nostalgia.

Exactly! How can nostalgia be fake? Confused

Im the least religious person in the world but "Oh holy night" just ends me

Yes! Me too.

In general I do not get emotional at Christmas music - which is just as well because I play in a local band and we do a couple of carol concerts every year.

However, I do get like this at the start of almost any musical show. It doesn't matter what it is, it could be something as banal as a pantomime. As soon as the curtain goes up and the first musical number starts I find myself welling up. It doesn't go on through the rest of the show, once I have got it out of the way in the first song then I am usually OK.

I am also like this in the opening scene to the film "Sound of Music". As the camera pans back and you see the mountainside and Maria starts with "The hills are alive..." I am reaching for my hanky.

It makes me dad too. My Dad died around Christmas and certain songs take me straight back to that time. Freiheit particularly gets me, I can recall queuing in John Lewis to buy him a digital radio when it started playing. I used to love that song as well.

I understand OP. The music always takes me back to when I was a child or in my early 20's when life seemed easy and there was so much hope and opportunity. And i was YOUNG lol I get very nostalgic and it makes me sad that life has passed by so quickly and for me things didn't turn out like I thought they would when I was young.
