To ask for reassurance re blood tests

Hi, had blood tests yesterday due to unexplained itching/bruising. Doctors think it's likely to be a vitamin deficiency of some sort as I'm a vegetarian with a terrible diet.
Nurse who took my bloods said if there was anything sinister/urgent I would get a call from the path lab - heard nothing which is hopefully positive.
Phoned the surgery today as I just can't settle and they said my bloods are back but haven't been viewed by a GP yet.
Anyone works in this area know if anything urgent would have flagged up somehow - the fact the results haven't been viewed is making me think it could still be something terrible 😞

If they have not been reviewed no one knows. Wait for the doctor to take a look

doyou have the nhs app? Once looked at they should be loaded onto that so you can look yourself if the drs are part of t(e scheme doing this, I am not sure if all drs do this yet

KrisAkabusi · 19/12/2023 12:25

You have been told that nobody has looked at them. There is no way that you should read that as terrible news. It literally means NOBODY HAS LOOKED AT THEM YET!!!

Catza · 19/12/2023 12:26

The fact that results haven't been viewed means that your GP hasn't had the time to look at them yet. Nothing more than that.
It's like someone sent you a letter to your home address and you haven't opened it yet. Doesn't really mean the letter is bad news.

I don't need mocking or shouting at. I'm literally asking if anyone knows whether the path lab would have flagged them as needing urgent attention rather than them sitting in the normal queue.
Have had cancer so yes I'm anxious.

NHS app?

i’d day you’re too early. Taken yesterday, I wouldn’t be phoning the GP for the results until Thursday

AhBiscuits · 19/12/2023 12:32

Can you see the results on your NHS app?

Sorry you’re so stressed about it. Emergency issues that would need immediate action and treatment would be flagged up usually by the lab. Other abnormal but serious results won’t necessarily though. Sorry not to be more reassuring but I hope it all goes well.

Earlier this year I experienced how fast things can move when there's something wrong.
I went for a blood test at 8.15 and a doctor rang me at 12.30.
So, for subsequent tests I always take the "no news is good news" view.

Yes a GP needs to review them but I guess the path Ian has a system for flagging up anything serious so they not to stress about it.

Sofiabella · 19/12/2023 16:16

GP just phoned - absolutely no problems with my blood count, platelets or clotting which he said means I can put my mind at rest re worst case scenario.
Mix up at the lab means they didn't test for vitamin/iron deficiency so he has put a form in for me to get these redone in the new year but he is not at all concerned 🙂

Yay! Great news @Sofiabella ♥️

Bippitybobbityboing · 19/12/2023 16:24

Good news!!

Fairyliz · 19/12/2023 16:25

Just be aware that not all surgeries load results onto the app.
Mine don’t, I only found out that some do off another thread.

AnotherDayAnotherDoller · 19/12/2023 16:26

OP sometimes the lab are super quick at returning bloods - it doesn't always mean it's bad news, try not to worry, GP will hopefully call you soon and fingers crossed for you all is well :)
