My lovely 15 year old loves to watch tv shows on her phone and I recently found out that shes watching a show about cannibals! (Its called Yellowjackets) I think that this is entirely inapprotiate for her age but she doesnt seem to agree. She said that im being horrible but I think im in the right. What do you think?

Thank you for telling me! I just worry that shes looking at murders and the like because I don’t really know much about the internet

You see worse on the news.

She's old enough not to need sheltering

User1775 · 19/12/2023 12:47

It's a drama based on Lord of the Flies - what are you on about?

I would advise you to try and understand it more, it's going to be a big part of your daughters life. Yellowjackets is fine, it's not about cannibals.

Sorry all! Im not very good at this internet malarkey

Are you my mother typing this from about 1997?

mondaytosunday · 19/12/2023 12:51

Thanks OP, I googled it and it has an amazing cast and high Rotten Tomatoes rating so I'm going to check it out! Looks great.

GinBlossom94 · 19/12/2023 12:52

What advice do you want? They resort to cannibalism to survive, the same as the "Alive" survivors did and that's actually true. Unclench

I think you'll be ok. This internet thing is just a flash in the pan. It will never take off.

But you can join and post on Mumsnet?

CHINNY RECKON!!

Classic 😂

pretzelbreath · 19/12/2023 13:30

My advice is to stop your pearl clutching and to watch it with her. It's very good.

pretzelbreath · 19/12/2023 13:33

Oh and OP, at 15 I was reading on the internet about murders, because I found it fascinating. I consider myself to be a well rounded adult with a normal job and family, not a murderer or a cannibal.

I've watched Yellow jackets. It's about a girls' football team who are in a plane crash and have to survive in the wilderness. Yes, it's a bit dark and bad things happen, but it's not as bad as any X-rated horror film and unless your daughter is especially sensitive she should be fine. It's very difficult to shield teens from any scary thing these days.

ClaireJohnson1981 · 19/12/2023 13:55

The numbers are my childrens birthdays! x

Please! You're 51 not 151. The internet has been in common usage for over 25 years now, there's no excuse for not knowing how to use it at your age.

I'm a lot older than that and I can use the internet without difficulty.

bookworm14 · 19/12/2023 14:13

You aren’t 51; you’re a bored teenager who thinks it’s hilarious to wind up the silly mummies on Mumsnet, and this thread will be deleted shortly.

🙄

TypicalCoach · 19/12/2023 15:18

If your child is 15 and doesn't know what weed is or know people in school who have/do smoked it then I would be more worried for her as she will be miles behind people of the same age.

“Behind” is an odd way of describing someone who doesn’t know people who take drugs. Is it an aspirational thing?
