To think a blue badge means you can't park across a dropped kerb?

I'm disabled. I have a blue badge. I take my primary aged children to school on mobility scooter occasionally I use a route that is daily blocked by a car with a disabled badge. It means I can't get off onto the road.

Would you report it?

I believe they can't park causing an obstruction (I've seen one towed for it... it was blocking multiple bus routes).

I have a blue badge and I'm not allowed to park across dropped kerbs. I'd report it.

LadyKenya · 18/12/2023 21:38

No they should not be parking like that. No one should.

Vintageport · 18/12/2023 21:39

I have a blue badge- I’m fairly sure you can’t block a dropped curb. I’m sure you could find out if you google it.

DragonMama3 · 18/12/2023 21:39

To cap it off on the other side that was the only drop kerb some wally had ignored the keep clear and parked on that. I ended up on the extremely busy road on a boot scooter.

As far as I’m aware you can’t park where it would cause an obstruction, which parking by a dropped curb would do. Where does the dropped curb go to, it could be for emergency vehicles being a school

The Gov website advises Blue Badge holders to "not park where it would endanger, inconvenience or obstruct pedestrians or other road users" and one example given is "where the kerb has been lowered or the road raised to help wheelchair users".

I would report it.

WilmaWonka · 18/12/2023 21:50

If the car is there regularly, report it on your council website with pics OP.

You’d have thought having a disability themselves (or transporting someone with one), they’d have more consideration for other disabled people using wheelchairs or scooters but obviously not.

RiverCartwright · 18/12/2023 22:24

Absolutely report it.
There is still the responsibility to park legally and safely. I recall a neighbour of my mums having his car towed many years ago. He was apoplectic over it. Turned out he’d pretty much abandoned it on double yellows overhanging the corner of an extremely busy junction that also blocked buses from turning into part of the local bus station. His reasoning? Nipping into Safeways….
He assumed a blue badge meant he could just leave it wherever.

cezannesapple · 18/12/2023 22:35

I’d report it if it was a regular occurrence. I might also put a note on the windscreen.

DragonMama3 · 21/12/2023 22:49

it's only been a problem last 2 months.
photos and police if it doesnt improve

A traffic warden came into my work the other month asking if anyone was the owner of 'such and such car'...I said no. Just then a lady came out from next door saying it was hers and it's ok as she had a blue badge. TW just said he didn't care, she was obstructing a dropped curb and she should no better! I was thinking 'yes, you tell her'. Sick of idiotic parking tbh.

Please don’t get me started. I have a blue badge and am severely struggling with mobility. I get to the school about 45 minutes early so I have a parking space close by. I park safely in a ‘normal’ space and would never dream of parking where I shouldn’t. There is this one mum who has a blue badge who gets there just as the gates open and decides to park on double yellow lines, double parking and obstructing not only the path but also causing a danger as it’s particularly on a bend so cars cannot see if children are crossing and people can’t see around the car. Unfortunately this person does this every day and thinks because they hold a blue badge they are above parking correctly and are fine with putting people at harm. I would report yours, I’m very close to doing the same at my child’s school as being disabled doesn’t make you exempt from being an ass.

DragonMama3 · 21/12/2023 23:38

That's annoying. My mobility is terrible. It's very hard to get to places I need to got with 2 under 9s. (Who has ASC/ADHD)

Does she have difficulties with walking? The bb lady?

The TW is so right! Well done, that man!
