Chest infection pain

Hi everyone, posting here for traffic! I ended up at out of hours yesterday and got antibiotics for tonsillitis and a chest infection. My throat is already beginning to improve, but my chest feels awful. It's not the infection itself (my oxygen levels were good, and the antibiotics will help quickly I'm sure, so
I'm not worried about the actual
Infection), but the pain in my back is just getting worse. It's so so uncomfortable. It even hurts to move around in bed. My whole back hurts so much, as if I've done a massive work out. I barely slept last night, and my DH did the school run this morning as I just couldn't face it.
The GP I saw yesterday said to continue with ibuprofen, but it felt so bad overnight I feel that this morning I need something stronger for an anti inflammatory. I rang the pharmacy this morning, and they said you can buy naproxen OTC, but because I take omeprazole for reflux, I'd need to contact the GP. I would just feel a bit of a pain doing so, given I saw one yesterday (when I felt awful, but the pain wasn't as bad). Has anyone ever had pain like this with a chest infection? It's honestly so sore. I don't often suffer with my chest (thankfully!), so not sure whether an anti inflammatory would even help?! Thank you!

Hi @Covidwoes in a word Yes, I've had a chest infection and DH has had a few as he has COPD and the back pain is truly awful - I likened it to being kicked in the back by a horse! Like you I found being in bed really hard as whichever way I lay it hurt and moving from one position to another also hurt! It will calm down in a couple of days. Obvs if you are still in that much pain by the end of the week get back to your GP but I would say at the moment what you are feeling is just par for the course with a chest infection.

@wibblywobblywoo that's reassuring, thank you! I haven't had a chest infection in years, so no idea if this was normal or not! The horse analogy definitely seems true. 😂

Just to add, I can't advise about Ibuprofen as both DH and I are allergic to it so it would never be a choice for us, sorry.

Currently suffering with a chest infection too! My chest only hurts when I’ve been laying down asleep as I think the phlegm (gross sorry!) pools there so I have to cough it up when I start moving.

Lots of hot drinks and water to keep hydrated as that will stop the phlegm being so sticky. And steam as well, not sure if it’s recommend still but god it helps.

If you’re not seeing an improvement in a couple of days don’t be afraid to go back to your dr as could be pneumonia and that is a total bugger to shift.

when I had a chest infection my breathing was so laboured for a day or 2 that I had DOMs in my back, between ribs and diaphragm.
took a few more days to resolve and hurt really badly when coughing.
