My DD is 7 months old and on to her 3rd full on cold, snot, cough, grizzly, leaky eyes and ear pulling in 3 months.

She's had 2 weeks worth of antibiotics for a throat and ear infection and I'm just sick of this winter already and we have another 2.5 months to go 😭

I'm so sleep deprived, I spend my time worried about her, checking temperature, checking breathing, I put her down in her cot at 9pm in a clean nappy and got her up an hour ago because she was struggling with her cough and thought I'd do a nappy change as we were up and it was bone dry, she's had a big drink of water and took about 3oz of milk. I'm laying in bed and she's coughing and spluttering and I'm now full of snot as well.

She's also cut two teeth in a week and I'm giving calpol and nurofen (alternating and not exceeding doses in 24 hours).

Is this literally going to be every single winter now I have a baby and is it going to get worse when she goes to nursery/school because I'm losing the will to live 😵‍💫

It’s horrendous op. We are the same. 3yr old 2yr old and new born. 3yr old brought home sickness, two year old now also has it so attempting to protect the new born probably in vain as I’ll likely get it too from caring for the other pair! Worried we will end up in a and e with the baby for Christmas at this rate if she gets it. Also worried if I get it I’ll bust my already painful stitches as both kids have the most awful cough. This is illness number 7 since the start of winter as the oldest started playschool. It’s just unbelievable. Basically a new disease every week😂

It's definitely a struggle. This is my children first year in school. My youngest has gotten strep 2x since school started him and my oldest tested positive Wednesday. I've been sick all weekend I've caught something too.

It gets easier each year OP... the first 2 winters are an absolute nightmare though, no point in trying to sugar coat it. And because they are wee, what would just be a normal cold for an older child can make them very ill and you need to be ready to go to GP or AE on not much notice some times. Plus if you've missed out on any of the childhood viruses, congratulations, you're going to get them now - in fact it would be worth checking at some point whether you need boosters for your own childhood vaccinations.

I would say once they are 3, it gets easier, because they will sit down with you and watch a film and have a warm drink - before that they don't really understand what is happening so every time they get a slight burst of energy they're back off the sofa zooming about and then inevitably they'll feel awful again and be crying. I don't know how the hell we survived evolution, toddler are basically a very cute design flaw Grin

Bless you, I hope baby doesn't catch it and your older 2 recover quickly ready for Christmas. It's bloody horrible isn't it 😭

Very cute design flaw 😂😂😂

Oh it's horrible, in the past 3 months we've been to A&E twice, nebulisers, now an inhaler which is impossible for her to use, as soon as the spacer goes near her face she holds her breath so doesn't actually breathe any in, double ear and throat infection, chest infection and now she's coughing and spluttering and snot is pouring bless her. It's really hard x

Yes this is basically your life now.

DD was a Covid baby and spent the first 18 months of her life being isolated and PCR tested for every cold in order to go to childcare, now age 4 she is still ill for about 6 months of the year.

DH and I have never been more ill as we get all the nursery germs too.

Roll on school….

Lammveg · 18/12/2023 21:54

Awww OP I'm glad you've posted this (not to say I'm glad your DC is ill!) But because my 11 month old is also struggling with a cough tonight. Feel so sorry for her (and me!)

Be careful what you wish for, my P1 DS has been more ill this winter than my nusery DD 😭I thought he'd already caught most things in nusery but apparently not!
