To keep DS5 off school for last week before xmas

DS who is in reception started with chicken pox last weekend and has been very tired and poorly with it all week. He has been absolutely covered in spots particularly on his neck and face. They have all scabbed over now (as far as I can tell) but his face is covered in scabs and he’s been quite sensitive about how they look. I’m a bit worried that the other children in reception will comment on how they look and it will upset him. AIBU to keep him off school for the final week of school before Xmas? I don’t work so can do plenty with him at home but I’m just unsure whether so much time off school is a mistake.

Poor little love, I hope he's better soon. Chicken pox is very nasty, he will recover but it will take a bit of time.

I actually did this but it was only like a Thursday and Friday and then by the Monday they were looking better and he went back. My ds was older though at 9 and they were severe so it did look bad.

Virasoothe gel was great at helping them heal with little scarring. He has one tiny crater on his forehead from one of them that he picked the scab off too early but nothing else and I think it was because of the virasoothe gel.

Sorry to hear your ds has been so poorly just before Christmas. Hopefully he perks up and feels better soon.

Thanks everyone, fingers crossed he’s on the mend soon.

What are these posts that are getting banned saying? Are they all telling OP to get a job? 😂

Probably, I’ve got no idea why anyone’s bothered about what I choose to do with my time 🙄

I’m a reception teacher. If he were in my class he wouldn’t be missed much work or learning (we’ve switched off and are doing fun Christmas things) but he would miss Christmas dinner, the nativity, Santa visit, the pantomime and Christmas party! I think a quick email or chat with his teacher to ensure they keep an ear out for anyone commenting.

It’s funny isn’t it, the measures people have to judge each other by? 🙄

How’s your boy doing? Xx

He seemed a bit better this evening thank you ☺️ and the spots are clearing much quicker than I expected them too! Xx
