To get eye checked after glass fragment in it but it came out?

So last night I was out with some friends in a crowded. Somebody threw a glass and I felt liquid (whatever drink was in the glass) and immediately like something in my eye. I used an eye wash and a tiny piece of glass did come out of my eye. So obviously a very small fragment of glass as I was so nearby when it was smashed. It feels okay today but a bit irritated/gritty. Not red or sore. AIBU to go to an out of hours clinic, to have it checked? Just because glass was in it. Or is it an over reaction because I don’t have pain. I don’t want them to be looking at me blankly, thinking why did you come when the glass it out!

Oh course you should - there could be other glass in there, for a start.

Yes you should!

Definitely get checked out

cezannesapple · 17/12/2023 14:54

Yes you should. It could have scratched your cornea and you would then need to use eyedrops.

Don't mess with eyes, get it checked. If not out of hours, call your local opticians, they're great at seeing people when there's a problem.

VolvoFan · 17/12/2023 15:14

You should get them checked over asap.

I work in a Minor injury unit.
definitely go, they should stain your eye to check for any more foreign body/damage to your cornea.

Do it. I got a tiny fragment in my eye and it scratched my eyeball, the section goes red and sore when I'm very tired or have very dry eyes, now, and the incident occurred over 14 years ago

@Kitcatmouse Thank you. I wasn’t sure if minor injuries place could look at it for me. It’s a Laya Swiftcare clinic that I’m planning on going to

It may be worth calling them in advance to check they do see eyes, but I don’t see why not as fairly standard thing for us to see and treat ☺️

I had similar, except I didn’t know what was in my eye. I went to an optometrist who diagnosed the problem and I had to see an ophthalmologist to get it out. Recently I felt a similar irritation and saw awent to an GP clinic but they didn’t have the equipment for a thorough enough check..so I saw another optometrist who said he could see something had been in my eye, but had gone and what was left was irritation. He gave me an anti bac eye gel. So I’d probably go the optometrist route first if that was going to be quicker.
