To re-train?

I've never had a career, though worked in retail (loved being busy, hated the early starts, loved working in a team). I'm a good learner; self-taught with software but I'd hate to be sat in an office 9-5pm. I've also been a copywriter but got bored with that, I prefer to write for my own enjoyment, also had a few admin jobs, but again got bored/frustrated with those.

I met DH and we were lucky to forge our own business in property, we've now made enough to live comfortably but got lonely in our own bubble. He now works in a job he enjoys part time and I'd love to do the same. I do volunteer in a local community cafe once a week but I really miss working, and connecting with others. No family, very few friends as I've moved so often due to the property business.

I suppose I'm half decent at whatever I put my mind to and I'm capable - but not outstanding in anything. I like a challenge but then can lose interest.

My main skills are communication, being organised, attention to detail, I like routine, I prefer to work alongside others, but these are all 'meh' skills. I have an arts degree, graduated top of my year, won academic achievement awards, it's never been of use though.

Has anyone got any advice for anything I could re-train in? I see posts all the time suggesting 'just re-train' but not seen anything specific - please help! I'd like to do something I'm proud of, that's rewarding and helping others would be a big, big plus.

Being able to obtain a qualification within 1-2 years and then get a related job would be brilliant.

You would make a terrific nurse. If you find out you don't like working for NHS (which is not a given- I love my NHS job) you will be able to take your degree to any corner of the Earth

I'm not sure if I'm cut out for nursing! But thank you for your reply :)

Teaching?

Aside from anything else, classroom teaching is the opposite of a team job.

Occupational therapy, 2 years for those who already have a degree x

A lot of jobs suggested require a degree do you have one

You sound ideal for probation officer. And the job would be very rewarding for you. Lots of people train in middle age as life experience is a great bonus. The PQIP programme opens again in the spring if you wanted to apply. You train, get a degree (fully funded) while earning.

I’m currently retraining as a carpenter - highly recommend it.

Thank you! Just having a look and I'm excited by this - I've registered my interest and I'll research more.
