Spot/lump under armpit on the side of my boob, help

Freakoutb4dinner · 16/12/2023 14:21

I've just been getting ready to go out for dinner and came across this when getting dressed.

It feels like a pea to touch and a bit itchy, which is why I discovered it.

I have shaved my armpits today rushed and put it down to that but then thought, shit, it's actually on the side of my boob and I don't shave them..

Do you think shaving is the culprit or do I need to make a GP appointment?

Any reassurance welcome so I don't spoil my afternoon and spend the evening worrying 😔

Just looks like a shaving bump to me or a little zit from a blocked hair follicle.

Westpoint · 16/12/2023 14:44

Looks like the start of an ingrown hair to me.

TheShellBeach · 16/12/2023 14:46

It's always worth getting things like this checked out.
It's very likely an ingrowing hair follicle, but I'd am the practice nurse to take a look.

Technonan · 16/12/2023 15:18

Always get lumps checked out. This one doesn't look like anything, but why take the risk?

CuttingMeOpenthenHealingMeFine · 16/12/2023 15:21

It looks like a hair follicle spot but get it checked OP, in my experience GP’s take anything in that area very seriously and will refer you if they think there is even the remotest chance it is sinister.

LividSleep · 16/12/2023 15:33

I get those all the time and they're always ingrown hairs, so it wouldn't bother me (I'd secretly enjoy the goop explosion that was coming).

PP are right though, if it's unusual for you get it checked.

GirlsAloudReturnMadeMyYEAR · 16/12/2023 16:23

Get it checked out op for your own peace of mind from a professional but as someone who has recently epilated then fake tanned I can assure you I have two of those! One in a similar spot and one on the back of my calf. It did turn out to be an ingrown hair in both cases. Drew it to a head with a baking soda remedy I found on tik tok!

Zebedee55 · 16/12/2023 17:08

Any lump should be taken to the GP. Social media won’t provide the answers.

Freakoutb4dinner · 16/12/2023 18:02

Thanks all. Very encouraging! I managed to enjoy my meal out.

I'm going to give it a week or so, see if I can bring it to a head perhaps.

If I can rule out an ingrown hair then I'll definitely have it looked at just to be on the safe side.

I did have a dodgy spot on my stomach that turned out to be an ingrown hair so it makes sense that they can appear in odd places.

A dear friend passed from BC last year so I automatically jumped to the worst case scenario because of where it is.

You need a Dr not strangers on here. I did 7 years of Red Cross - I learnt what cancer symptoms look like, CPR etc

Freakoutb4dinner · 19/12/2023 09:25

I've got a doctors appointment at 1pm today. The lump under the skin has got bigger and is really sore (my fault for prodding about probably)

You can't see the lump from the picture but the redness is making me think an infection.

Excuse the hairy pit. I've stopped shaving on that side until I know what it is / it's gone away.

I had an abscess right where the picture showed the redness.
It had to be incised and drained.

All from shaving!

TheShellBeach · 19/12/2023 22:43

Were you given antibiotics?

StillWantingADog · 19/12/2023 22:52

How did you get on?

ingrown hair most likely I reckon

I have a pea sized lump in a similar place and it’s been there for about 8 years. Asked several docs and been told not to worry, is a cyst or similar. I usually don’t feel it but a year ago it got infected and developed an abcess which had to be drained under GA. That part was annoying but mostly it’s harmless.

Freakoutb4dinner · 30/12/2023 23:17

Thank you for the replies

GP suspected an abscess due to the pain and redness so perscribed 7 days of flucoxacillin.

I've finished the course of antibiotics, the redness and pain has gone but the lump is still there. It feels deeper under the skin now than it did when it was angry and red iykwim?

It was pea-like when I first noticed it the other week but is bigger and more oval shaped now. I will admit I did give it a squeeze a couple of times which mustn't have helped.

The GP said to give it a month from starting antibiotics to see whether it goes away by itself and if not she'll refer me to the bresst clinic under a 2ww.

I think the 2 weeks to date is long enough to be able to ascertain that it isn't going away by itself isnt it?

Im struggling to think of anything else atm so another 2 weeks then another 2 weeks for an appointment at the breast clinic feels so far away 😔

Hi op- did this turn out okay? I have the same at the moment :(

Hi

I still have it but I'm satisfied that it's a cyst and nothing sinister.

it was still there after the antibiotics but a lot less inflamed.

I went back to the docs and a different GP referred me to have it checked out but said he was certain based on the presentation and how surface-level it was that it was a cyst. He said previously they wouldn't refer for something like mine but he did so for my peace of mind.

By the time I was seen at the hospital it had shrunk so much that the doctor couldn't feel anything there. Typical.

Sods law continued. It came back over the next couple of months.. but has stayed the same pea size ever since so I haven't bothered asking about it again.

Given that it's come and gone twice and hasn't grown I'm sure it's just a cyst that refilled and not the dreaded C.

I'm considering asking for it to be removed at my doctors minor surgeries clinic (they remove moles etc) but I keep forgetting it's there.

The vast majority of cases like ours turn out to be nothing sinister so please don't worry, just have it looked at for your peace of mind ❤️
