What to do on NYE?

Stuck for ideas this year. Have a two year old and an 11 year old so tricky to cater for them both. Had considered having a little party with a few friends at home but in all honestly I can't afford or be bothered to host and pay for all the food and drinks.

Also thought about going out for an early dinner at around 5ish but youngest is usually in bed by 7.

If we do nothing it'll end up being films and a takeaway at home with the eldest once the little one is in bed which is fine but no different to any other weekend. No childcare so not an option to go out. Any ideas? How do you spend it?

No idea. Watching for ideas! I hate ny. Ditto re small party, and then everyone cancels at the last minute. We usually end up with nibbles and tv. But yes, not exciting. A friend said she went to a pan to and that was a nice atmosphere…?

I’d go for the early meal, and then chill with some drinks at home

I'll be working a night shift! In a men's prison so there will be some banter at least, and the traditional banging of cell doors at midnight

Except for the Millenium New Year (I kept everyone up celebrating in the world ended that night) we always did the same as usual. Overtired kids are not something I want to deal with.

Takeaway after small one us in bed.

then something a bit different than usual with the eldest. Board Games, an activity they would love & both parents join in with enthusiasm.

me, I'll be spending it at home alone & I'll be happy with that! Some years the neighbours knock the door & sometimes they don't. I don't mind which!!

Reading this looking for inspiration!

24 hours to go and we're still undecided. Weather looks rubbish tomorrow evening and we had a family party last night. Feeling jaded and wondering whether to have a quiet one with a movie (same as tonight) Just DH, me and DD14. Maybe that's a bit boring though.

We have a 'party' at home. Just me, hubby, 10yo and 7yo.
We dress up, party type food, pizza, music and dance to the cheesiest songs we can think of. Then we see in the ny by watching big Ben on bbc1 and sing auld lang syne then look out the window at the fireworks.
We always have a great night and the kids love it and have lovely memories of our NYE together.

Ell obviously put the LO to bed but the oldest at 11 might be able to make it to midnight

We always did board games or similar and a late supper. And. I know this is unpopular on mumsnet, but can you get hold of any fireworks to set off at midnight. Putting tin hat on. Everyone here sets them off and there is a certain excitement of trying to get your own rocket off on the bong of midnight

Could you afford sparklers?
