Hair salon appointment

Hey I'm wondering if I'm being unreasonable here or if anyone can offer some advice. I booked my hair appointment with a stylist for a full head of highlights two months ago and paid a deposit. Ive seen her work quiet frequently on the salon page and as my old stylist is on maternity leave I needed to find someone new.

I received an email to say my appointment time had changed slightly which I was ok with but when I clicked on the link it showed not only had the appointment changed but the stylist had also and the person I have now I've had before for a blow dry and to be honest I could have done a better job myself.

I rang the salon and explained I'd rather get my hair done by x like I'd booked in for but was told she had another booking and if I cancel I lose my deposit as cancellations have to be done 7 days ahead. I was never informed of the change in staff member doing my hair and I'm not saying the person they have now is a bad stylist but they're not for me (I've thick unruly hair 😔) but Im more annoyed I was never informed and then to be told because im breaking the terms and conditions lose my deposit if I cancel now.

Not knowing their cancellation terms is no defence. However, the fundamental terms of the agreement have changed and so you are entitled to have your deposit returned.

I would say that they are 100% in the wrong. Not sure of the legality, but I would be v unhappy!

I think I’d push back on that tbh. How can she now have another appointment when you made yours 2 months ago?

If you don’t want to go ahead with the new hairdresser, I would say that they have cancelled your booking by changing the time and stylist, so you want your deposit back or the original appointment to take place.

How much was the difference in time?

caramac04 · 14/12/2023 09:51

They have broken their contract with you and so should refund the deposit.

Passingthethyme · 14/12/2023 09:53

No way, I'd demand my deposit back of they've completely changed the person. Shocking service! They won't be in business much longer with that attitude

Dreadful service. I honestly cannot imagine my salon changing the booked stylist, most people have a preference. They have changed the terms of the contract, they need to refund you.

Brefugee · 14/12/2023 09:56

your counter argument is that without consulting you they changed your stylist. I'd also be asking why, when you booked 2 months ago, did it suddenly become a problem and that they really ought to rethink not returning your deposit as that is sly and underhand.

Ask if you can push the appointment back to when the stylist has a slot. Be firm. And could you then 7 days before cancel and take the refund? (don't tell them that part)

ActDottie · 14/12/2023 10:24

Can you not cancel but push the appointment back to a time the stylist is available?

Sparklfairy · 14/12/2023 10:30

They need to refund the deposit as it isn't the stylist ypu chose. If they push back then ask them to do it as a "goodwill gesture", they're often a bit more receptive when "computer says no" with the 7 day thing.

KimberleyClark · 14/12/2023 10:31

This is really shit of the salon. They are in the wrong. Or is there something in their terms and conditions that they can’t guarantee you will get the stylist you originally booked?

bananablues · 14/12/2023 10:34

They need to return your deposit. A couple of times I have been contacted (phoned) as my hairdresser cannot do my appointment. Either offered a refund or someone else- always my choice.

Yes. Push back at this. YANBU.

They don't have a legal leg to stand on if you take this to small claims court- you paid a deposit on the basis of one thing and they are now saying they cannot provide it
