I keep seeing posts asking if it is ai. I know artificial intelligence but is this just robots adding posts or do people us AI apps to create posts? And how would AI be able to do a personal post?

Help an old gal out in understanding this madness!

There are products out there now, OP, where you can say: write me some text about XYZ, in the style of XYZ.

One particular one is called CHatGPT which is powered by a type of AI called Generative AI.

Many people now use this for work to give them a starter for social media posts, documents, content, quizzes etc (I do), and it seems some people also now go and ask for a Mumsnet post,

I've spotted many that I think are AI. There's a style that seems to stand out.

lkwhjis · 12/12/2023 06:53

It’s just a new trend where people feel all smart and intuitive by trying to shoehorn their ‘knowledge’ about AI into everything. The truth is they have no clue.

Bireadwhatiread · 12/12/2023 06:56

Sign up for Chat gpt. Ask it to write a post for you.

I am seeing loads of AI CV's so full of superlatives they are meaningless. Every sentence has 15 adjectives in and it's hard to see beyond the word soup to the bare bones underneath.

Chilicabbage · 12/12/2023 06:57

Some people use it to write posts for here when they are bored. Quite a few times the baisc ai text checker showed 99% ai when I plopped text into it from here. I know they are not 100% accurate, but that were quite obviously just a pisstake posts

autienotnaughty · 12/12/2023 07:00

So a person is behind the post but getting ai to write the post itself. Would the content still be true? Is it different to having a friend write something for you?

Bireadwhatiread · 12/12/2023 07:06

People do it for attention. Or out of boredom. Or both

It would definitely be a person, @autienotnaughty, so the sentiment of the post could be true.

You could say: me and my friend went to thr theatre. A couple behind us were talking and kissing. I asked them to stop. They wouldn't. It spoiled the show. Please write a post in the style of a Mumsnet poster.

And the output would be longer, added padding, lots of adjectives etc (you can alter/set the styles but most people seem to not know or care about this).

Whether the original situation really happened, I don't know. Probably not is my guess.

Malbecormerlot · 12/12/2023 07:15

Thanks 👍 it makes sense now. Though I will stick to the old fashioned way of things
Lol

@CantFindTheBeat great example. 🤣

Ok!

I will help an old bird out!

There isn't actually (yet) any such thing as artificial intelligence. What is available now is a language prediction model, that does exactly what it says on the tin! You can ask a question or ask for something to be done and the current machine learning models will look through all the available data and looking for patterns, similar to how humans learn and give a very credible answer. It is however entirely guided by humans.

We don't yet, however, have AGI, which is artificial general intelligence, this would be entirety independent from humans, essentially a being that is cognisant. That has awareness and can think for itself. This seems to be a goal for many, a race maybe, the ethical questions are thorny and multitudinous!

As for ChatGTP posts on forums? Gawd only knows, bored people, bad actors, marketing or research peeps, so many reasons, none of them particularly edifying!

I listed something on eBay last week. In the description box, eBay suggested that I might like to try their AI description of the item. It was a load of word salad. I declined.

Isn't it 🤣🤣

I ve seen people say "AI?" in nearly every post this morning! It's a bit annoying. Firstly, I don't think these posts do sound like AI. Secondly, maybe someone has use AI to write a post. So what as long as they're being honest about their issue?

Hi Mumsnetters,

I hope this post finds you all well! I had a bit of a theater experience recently that left me feeling a bit flustered, and I need your advice on how to handle such situations.

So, my dear friend and I decided to treat ourselves to a night out at the theater, excitedly anticipating an evening filled with drama and entertainment. However, our enjoyment was thwarted by a couple seated behind us who seemed to be having their own private show of sorts.

Throughout the performance, they were engaged in animated conversation and a fair amount of kissing, completely oblivious to the fact that there were other people trying to enjoy the show. After a while, I mustered the courage to politely ask them to keep it down a bit, but unfortunately, my request fell on deaf ears.

Needless to say, it put a bit of a damper on the overall experience for my friend and me. Has anyone else encountered a similar situation? How would you suggest handling such disruptions in a classy yet effective manner?

Looking forward to your wise and witty advice!

Warm regards,
Theatergoer_Dilemma

Now even I can spot that one! 😂

The AI hunting is getting rather irritating

American generator! Spelt theatre incorrectly (unless you are american of course!)

Galiana · 12/12/2023 08:16

Here is ChatGTP's answer!

Language prediction models, like GPT-3, are specialized models designed to predict and generate text based on the input they receive. They excel at tasks such as completing sentences, generating coherent paragraphs, and answering questions within the scope of their training data. However, they lack true understanding and consciousness.

AGI, or Artificial General Intelligence, refers to a level of artificial intelligence that can understand, learn, and apply knowledge across a wide range of tasks at a human-like level. Unlike language prediction models, AGI would possess general intelligence, allowing it to perform diverse cognitive tasks with comprehension and adaptability.

In essence, language prediction models are specific tools for text generation, while AGI represents a more comprehensive and versatile form of artificial intelligence capable of understanding and tackling various intellectual challenges.
