Posting for xmas gift idea traffic please - I'm seriously thinking about buying a fondue set as a xmas gift for my DD and DSIL as they're both cheese lovers .................. but is this a bit old-fashioned?

I remember them being around years ago - but are they a bit dated now ??(fondues, not my DD and DSIL!)

Tesco are now selling cheese dishes which are like a fondue, it’s a round bowl full of cheese which you put in the oven to melt then dip into with crusty bread. They do two sizes, I tried a cheddar with chorizo one the other day, it was delicious. I’ve got the bigger one for when my sister and brother are visiting at Christmas. You would have to improvise if you want skewers to stick the bread on!

I recently had a new kitchen fitted and threw away a lot of stuff that had languished at the back of cupboards for years. This included a proper fondue set which was a present from the 1980s, I kind of regret it now as I enjoyed the melted cheese dish so much!

We still have fondue, and my son 30 DIL 26 and their friends often have them. I must admit though, I was bought a raclette last year and love it, you melt cheese in these little dishes and can cook things to eat with it on the top, great fun

I thought it was all about raclette these days?

I've looked at the raclettes, but they don't seem to be as versatile??

Lots of different perspectives here - thank you to everyone :)

@ilovemyspace

why not give them vouchers for wherever you'd buy them from & say you wanted to buy the Fondu sets but weren't 100% sure they'd want them?

I love Fondu, I'd appreciate the thought, but I really really don't have space in my kitchen to house a Fondu set. If I did, I'd want to choose it myself (design, colour, size)

my kitchen surfaces are clear because that's how I want them. Not filled with gadgets etc.
