... is unable to differentiate between Christmas and Easter?
I mean 'Easter Parade' as the Sunday afternoon film on the 9th December!
They'll be taking the all-year-round hot-cross buns away next...

@Elvis1956 Actually, it was Holiday Inn that became the basis for White Christmas

OP posts:
jemenfous37 · 10/12/2023 12:09

@LakeTiticaca Nothing! That was my point, if they can do easter at christmas, the world may well tip further on it's axis and we'll lose the year-round hot x buns!
Yes, I do realise that saying easter films at crimble are mad, but easter buns all year round are essential, is contradictory - it was intentional!

@NigelHarmansNewWife No, it does not! That song is from Meet me in St Louis. Judy Garland sang it to Margaret O'Brien
Jeez, has anyone proffering an opinion on this film actually watched it?

not everyone celebrates christmas

and i take it you didn’t bother to read the film synopsis, just the title

Not everyone celebrates Christmas, no. But the ones that celebrate Easter tend to.

nettie434 · 10/12/2023 12:27

I thought it was a bit weird too but they have had a few classic musicals on BBC2 this year.

I guess it partly depends on the broadcast rights as the number of classic films that have been bought up and aren't available on streaming is something that's being debated.

Nothing to do with the OP but reading the thread about the licence fee shows that there is a core of people who don't want to pay it (even if they watch live TV or use the iplayer). In the past when the BBC had more money, we'd probably have had a season with a commentary programme too.

I was feeling really really smug!🤣 Yes you are right... bugger it.

icebearforpresident · 10/12/2023 13:20

Sometimes Elf is shown in July yet life manages to go on as normal 🙄

jemenfous37 · 10/12/2023 13:21

@Elvis1956 😃 I hate it when that happens! ( and it often does!)
Happy Christmas/Easter!!

@Theimpossiblegirl but the easter parade isn’t about Easter…. it’s a romantic romantic classic!

NigelHarmansNewWife · 10/12/2023 09:14

As it hardly ever snows at Christmas in the UK - rain is more likely - you could argue it's wholly inappropriate.

Good point. Singin' in the Rain should be the Christmas classic.

Cas112 · 10/12/2023 15:54

Why's it such an issue anyway😂😂😂😂

Wolvesart · 10/12/2023 15:58

JollyJunee · 10/12/2023 07:38

They tend to run classic films at Christmas and Easter. Singin’ in the Rain, Easter Parade, Gone With The Wind, Wizard of Oz, Meet me in St Louis. Those sorts of films. It’s just a classic film.
I love em all!

Always wonder what Americans think about the effect that film/song has had on the pronunciation of St Louis down the decades

Calm down dear - I mixed up two Judy Garland films.

CoffeeCantata · 10/12/2023 17:25

NigelHarmansNewWife · Today 09:12

Easter Parade has the song, "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" in it.

I've never seen it so I might be wrong but....I thought that song was in 'Meet Me in St Louis'? It might be in both for all I know, but it's definitely in Meet Me.

Anything with the amazing Judy Garland is always worth watching.

Oh, are you just physically unable to complete a sentence then? Was

“To wonder which bod at the BBC is unable to differentiate between Christmas and Easter?”

simply too much effort for you?

jemenfous37 · 10/12/2023 07:25

@contactus Don't be so ridiculous. Of course I don't just read the film bloody title. Easter Parade happens to be a family favourite, and it centres on a bloody Easter parade.
Even if we don't all celebrate Christmas, in what is largely still a Christian country, it's daft planning.
But do please take a lighthearted moan and make it into a bitchfest

It’s not a “largely Christian country” anymore.

and certainly where i live - the majority of the congregations are parents trying to get their children in to the local schools
