I’m not unreasonable, but the traffic police are!
I sold my car and purchased a new one at the end of August. It wasn’t an official PX as I had to reorder the V5, so bought my new car and officially sold the other a few days into September to the same car company (think Arnold Clark type place but not that company). I have a slip from the DVLA to prove I am no longer the registered owner dated to the day it was sold.
The car I sold was caught speeding at the end of September. I was for some reason sent the paperwork, asking if I was the driver. Did the online form to say no, gave the company’s details, photo of the DVLA slip and an explanation that I could not have possibly been driving the car at 4am several miles away when at home asleep with my 3 young children. Today I received a letter from the police saying they do not accept this as I haven’t named a specific driver that could have been driving the car if it wasn’t me. They say if I don’t send in the form by post in 14 days I’m liable for court/prosecution!
I will go to court if needs be to tell them exactly how unreasonable they’re being. I’m just unsure where to go next, do I need a solicitor? There is a number on the letter but it seems to be an automated system that just wants me to give in and pay. Is it really typical to be chased about a car that had not been in my possession for nearly a month?? I have no points on my license and don’t see why I should be liable for someone else’s speeding!
