I'm hoping someone can help I'm really worried but I don't know if I should be. I had all four of my wisdom teeth out 30th November under the GA at the hospital. Was approx two hours as the bottom right was very tricky and stuck horizontal. I've been in a lot of pain (healing pain in the mouth) but this morning I developed a pain in my neck, especially with I turn it to the side or move it back. I have had this all day and also noticed my veins have now appeared in my neck, my neck never shows veins it's usually clear.
The pain is circled located in the picture on the left, can anyone help me explain what it might be. Sorry for typos typing reply fast

I'd call 111 and ask to speak to a doctor, or try to get an OOH appointment, i wouldn't want to wait til monday, or go to A+E on a friday night or weekend if not necessary.

Also hurts when I swallow in this location, no pain here during whole recovery and has just started today thank you if you can help reassure me it's normal
I did fill in a 111 form it said speak to dentist but it's Friday

Ring the OMFS ward of the hospital you had the procedure done at. Contact details Must be on your discharge papers. Rather than 111

Spoke to 111, sorry I didn't see latest message .. I may call the ward this weekend too as 111 have said to speak to GP Monday Hmm I hope there's nothing going on with it. I gave as much detail as I could, she spoke to a clinician and they said neck pain can be quite common
I haven't had it for 8 days though it's very strange!

I had bad ones done under local and was shite for more than a month. Hopefully this is normal, but always wise to check!

If it hurts to swallow just check your gum, I had my wisdom tooth out recently and found a tiny shard of tooth had worked it's way out through my inside gum, hurt to even talk til I found the issue.
Also my jaw wouldn't open fully for a couple of weeks and had neck pain for a short while.
I don't think pain is an issue unless severe however swelling and a temperature may be so needs keeping an eye on. (Not an expert btw!)

Did you get antibiotics afterwards? Do you still have any left which you can take? There's a reasonably high risk of infection after a double wisdom teeth removal (let alone quadruple). Delayed infection is also more common after both sided removal compared to just one. The pain and veins could be a lymph node struggling to heal the extraction sites (maybe pressing on a nerve or something). After 8 days the sockets are still all open so any bits of food stuck during that time could have triggered infection or impeded the healing process.

Best option would be rinse everything with Corsodyl and be very careful not to aggravate the wound site, even if it means going back on a liquid diet. Try to get antibiotics as soon as possible, definitely call the GP or hospital where you had the extraction.

Angrymum22 · 08/12/2023 23:47

If you haven’t any Corsodyl go back to hot salt water.
If you had stitches are they still there? The resorbable ones often take an age to resorb and can become infected. Simply removing them usually solves the problem. But it would be wise to have antibiotics if this is the case.

If at any point you start to struggle to breath get straight down to A&E , a rare complication of lower wisdom teeth is a retropharyngeal infection which is an emergency. The swelling can increase rapidly and interferes with your airway.
It is very rare but does need prompt action.
