Upset about aging eyes

Rumplestrumpet · 08/12/2023 18:52

I know this is vain, but it's getting me down. Since turning 40 my skin has really declined and my eyes just look so old.

It's not wrinkles as such, it's the skin under my eyes - it's so puffy and saggy, with dark rings.

I've made a huge effort with my health, regularly going to the gym, getting strong and fit, and eating better. But my aging face is starting to make me so sad. I know it's genetic (mum has looked 10+ years older that she really is since 30) but is there anything I can do about it?!

I'm sure if you have a look on YouTube, there will be all kinds of tricks they say work, but really, if you can't embrace it, you'll need to get filler, Botox etc, that route.

I felt down about my cats bum lips and decided to get it tweaked.

Best thing I ever done. Made me feel good. I done it just for me and it made me feel happier in myself.

I've not had it done for a while as it's just kind of worn off now. I forgot how much I hated how it looked. I will be definitely getting it again before Xmas

Rumplestrumpet · 08/12/2023 19:02

I'm not sure filler would even help, but in any case can't quite bring myself to do it. Maybe I'm being snobby but I guess O shouldn't, as we don't all have kind genes when it comes to aging! Really glad you were happy with the result, good for you.

Why not book a consultation with a skin clinic and see if they can recommend anything? There could be lots of options that aren't as extreme as filler

Rumplestrumpet · 08/12/2023 19:10

Do you mean like a dermatologist? I'll ask around for a recommendation, but pretend it's about something else 🙈

Reframe your thinking . Ageing is a privilege OP, every line tells a story about the adventures of your life. There are so many people who we have loved and known over the years that never made it this far, see ageing in a positive light and embrace it .

mymidlifeeyes · 08/12/2023 19:15

If you see my username I'm having the same issue at 43.

Murad retinol eye patches are great. You can look into perfecteyesltd.com/ which was recommended to me. Several non surgical and surgical options.

As a PP says, ageing is a privilege. It's just annoying when the rest of you looks young but the eyes don't!

I'm not sure tbh because I have never went but I always see 'skin clinics' advertised where I live.
I suppose some will have dermatologists and others will have different qualifications.

The only real solution is tear through filler it works incredically well I've been having it for years. Puffiness foreo tell a lymphatic drainage massage device which is designed for eyes and puffiness I'd combine that with a good retinol eye cream. Filler is nothing to feel snobby about it's just hydroconic acid 🤷‍♀️

Rumplestrumpet · 08/12/2023 19:24

Some great tips here, thank you.

I'm 43 too and I think having had kids late is what tricked me into thinking I wasn't going to age like my mum did. Truth is those sleepless nights do real damage past 40!

Any recommendations for a good retinol eye cream? Do they really work?

OP posts:
Rumplestrumpet · 08/12/2023 19:25

And I am trying to reframe it and be grateful. I am grateful - for my kids and my great health and so much more. That's why I feel embarrassed about this vanity, because I have such a wonderful life

Injectable skin boosters made a massive difference to my eyes. Really brightened and freshened up the skin, looks smoother and younger.

ArcticBells · 08/12/2023 19:33

OP , I'm not suggesting you need plastic surgery but I had bags under my eyes that really got me down so I had them removed. 5 years later I've pretty much forgotten that I ever had it done.

Go and see a professional to discuss your issues and see what can be done. It's not vanity- it just enables you to move on with your life.

Face yoga along with good hyaluronic acid and micro needling (I do this at home) does wonders

WhiskersPete · 08/12/2023 19:39

I'm getting tear trough filler tomorrow for this exact reason. I don't mind looking older but I don't want to look so exhausted all the time.

Ffsnotaconference · 08/12/2023 19:42

What’s your skin care like?

I noticed the same once I hit 40. Earlier this year I concentrated on hydrating the skin rather than anti aging. I did retinol the year before, it’s not for me.

This year I made sure I use products that hydrating and seen some really good results.

Non of it’s hugely expensive. Though collectively it could be. I just slowly built what I use up. I use the revolution eye patches a 3 times a week. A hyaluronic acid eye cream twice a day. On a night I wait a bit and put a thick eye cream over. The one I have at the moment is a Lacura one from Aldi.

Took about 2 months to start seeing results and in 6 they look loads better.

Zanatdy · 08/12/2023 19:42

I’m almost 47 and although I’m told I don’t look it (and I don’t) I’m still seeing about some Botox / fillers in new year. What bothers me most is my neck. Since I regained some weight it’s nowhere near as bad. So I’ll never lose that amount of weight again as it’s definitely ageing as you get older

App13 · 08/12/2023 20:09

I'm 44 next week and have been using vit e on my eyes since 22, and I assure you I have no lines and bags underneath.

Do try it to keep it all at bay

BowlOfNoodles · 08/12/2023 20:25

I'd urge you ladies to also look into laser resurfacing this can include under the eyes and is nicknamed the madonna eye lift this works great for fine lines and pigmentation/dullness acne scars. Deeper lines are best handled with fillers. I'd also suggest paying the extra for a doctor rather than salon based well worth it! In terms of a good eyecream I've tried many I enjoyed the nip fab I tried it after finding it in the reduced section for £2 and absolutely loved it! In addition to these things draining the fluid in the eyes with lymphatic drainage massage/tapping so many videos on utube and having cooling eye masks or patches on hand in the refrigerator in addition to filler/tear through ( filler helps with darkness/hollowing ) crows feet are best handled with botox.

BowlOfNoodles · 08/12/2023 20:29

If Retinol doesn't work for you look into tretinoin which is far for powerful ( still a slow worker ) you can't buy it over the counter but dermatica sell it on a prescription basis if you fill in a questionnaire and add some photographs for their dermatologist to view. Very affordable to.

I had this problem. 7 weeks ago I had an upper and lower bleph. I have a thread on here with photos. I’m 54 and my eye bags are gone! It was £3500 for the op. I actually had other stuff done as well but that’s the cost for the eyes. I cannot believe the difference! I feel a million dollars.

magimedi · 08/12/2023 20:51

I am upset about my ageing eyes.
I've been told I have cataracts developing that will need operating on in the next couple of years.

Could you link to your thread?

Sallybegood · 08/12/2023 21:48

Think about your diet as well? There seem to be multiple sources that say that sugar breaks down collagen and makes skin look older (hasn’t stopped me eating it sadly). I had a McDonald’s the other week for dinner and was shocked to wake up the next morning with really puffy under eyes which I don’t usually have - from all the salt presumably. They were gone within an hour or two but if you eat a lot of salt regularly then maybe that’s a factor?

Tear trough filler has its own risks- look into these first.
its hyalonuric acid, actually!
