To stop taking progesterone HRT? (Bleeding ref)

Shamelessly posting here as didn't think general health was used much!

I've been on HRT for 9 months (gel and progesterone tablets) and the effects of the gel have been incredible. I was feeling so crap before - no patience with the kids, snapping lots and exhausted and it's helped immensely. However the progesterone has been causing excessive bleeding. It wasn't too bad at first but by month 4 I was bleeding heavily for 3 weeks at a time, way beyond any period amount - soaking through clothes etc.

The GP suggested I move to 21 days on 7 days off (rather than 14/14) which has helped but now I'm just bleeding (usually pretty lightly) all the time, with the odd heavy day. I'm getting really fed up and it's affecting sex too.

As far as I can see the increased risk of womb cancer is really low so I'm wondering whether to just stop taking it. I'm only 43 though so perhaps on the younger end of the scale to start HRT. I'm on the progesterone only pill and don't want to try the coil as I have prolapses and just don't want to mess with my cervix! (Have read a few horror stories of uterine prolapses and coils which I've been strongly influenced by).

Any experience or thoughts please?

I was on HRT tabs oestrogen and progesterone combined, and had bleeding, and was referred straight to gynae for uterine biopsies, I had precancerous cells and got the all clear 18 months later.
I won't be going back on it, I'm back to hot flushes, not as bad, though.

I ended up going on to the mirena...as the tablets were making me miserable. That has been fine for moods but I'm getting breakthrough bleeding so I'm having to have biopsies to see what's going on and I suspect they are going to say come off the HRT - as it's also causing issues with them being able to tell what is going on with breast cells.

I'm gutted.

I'm really sorry you've both had problems with it. And very thankful I posted - I got the impression from the GP it was just an inconvenience rather than potentially a health problem. I'll give them a ring now and book in.

It was so bad in summer I did think this really can't be healthy, but as it's now lighter (albeit all the time) I guess I've ended up just seeing it as an inconvenience rather than anything potentially risky.

I REALLY do not want to come off it all though, it's been a game changer and I'm not sure I'll cope without it.
@MrsCarson was the belief the HRT was causing the pre-cancerous cells or just coincidence they were spotted then? I feel really ill-informed now. Very glad you got the all clear but rubbish you won't be able to get any support for peri/menopause. That sucks.
@BigDahliaFan what did you mean about breast cells? I hope the biopsies aren't too uncomfortable and there's a way to stay on HRT.
