Our council makes a big deal they offer concession memberships for carers/ disabled people/ job seekers etc.

However these memberships can only be used off peak (before 4pm weekdays or early on weekends).

They are the same price as the off-peak membership. So I can provide lots of documents to get this ‘discount’ and only be able to go off-peak, or I can just buy a standard off peak membership for the same price

Aibu to be considering a formal complaint. The council website is constantly advertising this, people are signing up and all happy at their discount… not realising it’s the same process either way. I’m personally invested as a career who is caring during the off peak hours!

that's shocking and technically breaching advertising standards if because it's making a false claim if it says it's 15% off full price - because it's not for the same thing. It's like saying blue light card get a big mac at happy meal price, but then just giving them a happy meal!

I know you've spoken to them and they've confirmed you're right but I would try and get it in writing before you do anything else e.g. just email (or make an FOI request if they are evasive) simply saying 'What is the difference between a carer's discount membership and a normal off-peak membership?'
